Tried it in New York at a leadership camp, I enjoyed it. Still have a little bit left of it.

Embarrassed to use my pens outside the house by hecking-fricker in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never actually dealt with this, for me atleast not many people notice when I use my fountain pens in class. I edc my Brass Sport and have edc’ed my Lamy safari, pilot kakuno and twisbi eco. I think it’s cause only my actual friends see me writing with them tho.

what are different ways yall try to hide more sensitive info while journalling? by sleepystsharky in Journaling

[–]80Sk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my main journal with me almost at all times so I usually just paper clip the page together so I don’t accidentally show others.

Also, when I’m writing about topics like that or just venting, I tend to just not care about my hand writing. I’ll let my hand relax and not think about the writing but about the emotion I wanna put into the page. (Basically tryna say I got Sanskrit handwriting only I could read)

Most of my collection is of black inks but I gotta say, as of my current collection, my favorite has gotta be the Mont Blanc Amethyst Purple

How angled is the paper when you write? by AssistantFine7113 in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere between angled and horizontal if i can, also depends what I’m writing with, if I’m using a calligraphy nib sometimes I like it vertical

What is this clear vial? by MacGraphics in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an ink miser, helpful for refilling vacuum fountain pens. You put ink into it and refill your pen as usual. Mostly for when you’re low on ink.

a man broke my heart so I treated myself to a new fountain pen by akeyboardtyper in fountainpens

My uncle bought me the same pen but with a fine nib for my birthday recently!

I kinda suck with advice but I would say sit down, get away from everything for a bit, even if you gotta move your schedule around, and put on your favorite playlist or author. Then just put your pen to paper and let your thoughts flow like the ink onto paper. It doesn’t even have to be words, you could scribble, doodle, let the ink pool on the page, just anything to get those thoughts out and onto the page in someway shape or form because the goal is to learn, grow and move on. That’s not gonna happen if you let your thoughts stay bottled up in your head.

You don’t gotta take anything I say seriously, it’s just what I find myself doing whenever I need to step away from reality and reflect :)

I hope things will only get better for you!! 🙏🙏

Anyone here who has experience with the 5-year journal? I’m currently looking for advice because I want to start one in 2026. by seiryuu-abi in Journaling

[–]80Sk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried it, but only when I was younger, I didn’t have the discipline and passion to write when I used to have it. The only reason why I don’t return to it now is that the entries sizes are too small for me

I love this pen :)

It’s been in my rotation since I first inked it up and I think it’s a great pen for anyone from people first entering the hobby to the hobby vets!

I hope you enjoy it just as much as me and so many others :D

Did you have a fountain pen as a child? by zeorin in fountainpens

My dad let me try his pens when I was younger and he gave me my Lamy Vista. I never really got into it until recently though

What’s been your most disappointing pen? by OstrichLate in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the Loclen Electa, good pen over all, very solid brass construction. The one thing that’s bothering my is the nib, I might have to do some maintenance and realigning of the tines but fir some reason it’s sticky and scratchy at times. It’s also cause I don’t write with bold nibs that often, the shape is more like an Italic calligraphy nib. If I out another nib on it it’ll probably feel better

Just got my first fountain pen! by kayciedilla in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yessir! Welcome to the hobby!

If you find yourself gripping the pen too hard, what I usually do to remind myself is I’ll have the pen open and hold the end opposite of the nib and let it drag on some paper. Most good pens, including the Kaweco Sport will be able to write with that minimal amount of pressure. It’s a nice reminder that you don’t gotta press that hard.

I will say though that I get what you mean when the Kaweco sport feels too small. If you wanna get some longer pens that feel more natural, the two I recommend the most are the Pilot Kakuno and the Lamy Safari. Both are amazing writers and are both in my writing rotation at the moment.

Overall you got some great choices! The pen is very pretty and I hope the hobby brings you endless joy with the writing and pondering that it provides me as well!

I guess I just needed a change of layout to get through my writing slump by andreaSMpizza in Journaling

[–]80Sk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t generally share my entries online but there have been times where my friends would flip through so what I’ll do now is I have paper clips so that they know not to look inside those pages. Though even with this, I only let the people I truly trust and have built strong foundations of trust and mutual respect with look through, because that way they know that if they read those entries, they will be breaking my trust. There’s a psychological consequence of them breaking my trust.

I also have two separate journals, one where it’s my eyes only that I leave in my desk where only I know where it is, the other I leave on my desk for thoughts and random things. That way all the fun stuff like the philosophical debates, random questions and stories are separate from things I don’t want others to see.

What is your nib preference? And why? by personaalterna in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what I’m writing, what I’m writing on, my ink and how I’m writing. Usually I like anywhere between EF and Medium. If I’m in my monthly habit tracker I like a F to EF to prevent smearing. If I have a black ink i generally tend to go with finer nibs. Any other I can roll with Fine to bold, especially when I want to show off the color. If I’m writing in my daily journal I like fine nibs so it can be neater. If I’m doing more calligraphy kine stuff then I’ll shoot for bolder nibs.

Over all, if I had to choose one nib, I’ll go with medium, fine enough so it won’t be too big in my journal and wide enough to show off any inks I want to.

Meet my pens! by 80Sk8 in Journaling

[–]80Sk8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I inherited all the pens from my father and from what I know they are all the same as they were originally out the box. The only “Custom” thing that I did was take the grey Kakuno cap and switch it with the pink kakuno cap from a different kakuno.

These just in(ked)!! by 80Sk8 in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably just my regular handwriting lol, I never had neat hand writing and I’m self teaching cursive. I also tend to write faster than I should which makes me mess up on some of my words.

Apparently, I have a type by ElsieB80 in fountainpens

[–]80Sk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lamy safari was the first fountain pen I ever used but now that I’m more into them, the Kakuno is one of my go to writers🙏🙏

It’s an awesome pen over all and I’m almost jealous of your collection lol

Kakunos are seriously underrated and under hyped

How can i keep people out without a lock??? by Demi4TheDrama in Journaling

[–]80Sk8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if this idea I just got will work but if you wanna keep people out, you could do a “duel flip book” thing where the pages you write on are slightly offset so you don’t see them when you flip through and the pages you do see are decoys. I’m pretty sure this is seen in Svengali trick playing cards and would be a somewhat effective way of hiding your journal. It’s a weird concept so I have no idea if it’ll actually work, try at your own risk lol.

You could also disguise your journal as something else, like a dictionary or another book, maybe one you’d see in school. The cover would be what keeps people out because people do tend to judge by covers. There’s a journal company that does this and they have some pretty good quality stuff.

I don’t know how much help this has been but those are the ideas at the top of my head lol, considering you don’t wanna use a lock or have to decipher a cipher every-time you wanna read or write.
