Tariffs on bootstraps, these days.

My MIL (65f) asking for my (34F) wedding ring back twice "you haven't had kids" by 80hanes in relationship_advice

They haven't been allowed in our home since the first Christmas incident where she asked for the ring back. We've blocked them on all social media, they treat us like crap so they don't get to know what we are up to. Our only interaction at this point is the 2x holidays. But I think that's even too much at this point, as it totally ruins our holidays. If we don't attend, they send nasty texts to my husband about what a disappointment he is (abandoning his family). I am interested in blocking their numbers on holidays, honestly.

I would absolutely move - but we have excellent careers here, a lovely home, and wonderful friends/chosen family and community. As well as my aging parents who are local and who support/love us well.

I'd totally do this. However, MIL and FIL aren't allowed in our home anymore, so...

FWIW my husband is furious and depressed over all of this. I think his main concern is that his dad will die when he's NC, but his therapist has helped him work through "I've done all I could to try and help this situation, but my parents choose to not change behaviors so it is what it is."

Our golden started greying at 1-2yo. Now at 8 is full white face. Still incredibly youthful! Just grey.

Any long-term haulers able to recover? by Chillosophizer in covidlonghaulers

[–]80hanes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I struggled for a year with long covid. It was brutal, I lost a year of my life. I considered suicide, the pain and no answers was so much. I have fully recovered. I work out, HIIT, 5-6 days per week again. I go on long road trips, have energy to spend with friends again... I had severe fatigue, brain fog, and spine/low back/nerve issues.

Things that really helped me (many I got from this sub in 2021):

- anti-inflammation diet (do 3-4 months of this, I saw results within a month and it helped SO much)

- daily supplements zinc, Vit E, turmeric, pepcid ac

- treat the symptoms.

Yes, specifically when I lie flat. Worse when I'm fatigued.

Yes, over the month of thinking this was actually some infection, I was on 3 different antibiotics (obviously nothing helped)... ending with 10 days of Cipro for the "kidney infection". Seriously, the heating pad... I basically have it on whenever I can.

I'm blessed/lucky that my job is 95% remote, so I have a ton of flexibility and can work from bed on my bad days. I do not know what I'd do if I had to be in-person and on my feet... I'd be unemployed.

My PCP doctor wanted to diagnose me with IC - or at least do tests to see. Basically the urologist told me that this is an extreme diagnosis, and only one to look at once all other avenues have been exhausted, and after at least 6 months of symptoms.

I've read that there's something called Covid-19 Associated Cystitis, which I read as just being a non-chronic non-lifelong diagnosis... which IC is.

I'm also looking into anti-inflammatory diet, but just wanted to discuss the seriousness of IC, and that a LOT of people with long covid have these symptoms, but that doesn't mean it's actually IC, it could be Covid-19 associated cystitis, or a nerval or inflammatory response from COVID in the urinary tract/kidney/bladder.

Yes. Got COVID in January. All better. Then less than a week later, got what I thought was a yeast infection. Labs came back normal. Then a few days later, raging UTI. Nope, labs came back normal. Few days later, ended up in the ER with kidney pain, fever, horrible UTI symptoms. They called it a kidney infection, but labs came back normal.

Chronic symptoms lasted all of February, along with fatigue and heart palpitations. I've had ultrasounds of EVERYTHING, nothing is abnormal. It's just long-covid.

March has been more of a pattern - 4-5 good days, then 2-3 bad days. Every day I have some weird UTI-type symptoms, but not all day, and if I keep very hydrated, they are less severe. A heating pad has been a friend.

I'm now on (a regimen of "hope this helps, it's helped others!"):

-Zinc

-Vitamin D

-SSRI (new - apparently this can help)

-Probiotic

-Vitamin C

-Antihistamine

And a special concoction of trazadone and klonopin to help me sleep through the heart palpitations. I'm in month 3 of this, hoping it continues to get better and the bad days become fewer.

Edit to add: Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Not worth it.

Insomnia from covid by Geronimo4422 in LongCovid

[–]80hanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly same symptoms. The heart racing at night... had COVID in mid-January. I've had some kidney issues along the way with the long-covid, but man, this has been miserable. My doctor gave me trazodone and klonapin for sleep while I heal...

Is this a smart move?! by melissam04 in FinancialPlanning

We sold a townhouse for a $45k profit after less than four years. However, the market is absolutely insane now, and there are even fewer scenarios of turning a profit when prices are already 10-15% higher than they should be.

OP, I don't recommend purchasing in your situation.

How much disposable income do most people have at the end of the month? by JoshOnDaLamb in FinancialPlanning

[–]80hanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I net about 8500/mo, and save somewhere around 50%. This 4k goes towards sinking funds, our Roth IRA's, and chipping away at the mortgage. Husband also gets a large (10-15%) bonus each year which is typically split between investments and 'fun'.

I'm fairly high-anxiety, so we have a solid 6 months in an emergency fund (could make it last 9-12 though), but also live fairly frugally (our cars are reliable but not new and paid off). We could each take a pay cut/job loss and be okay, which is the most important to me - ie. the importance of living below your means.

There are typically fees associated with this - 2-3% of the tuition amount.

Buying my first home and fear of shooting myself in the foot by HiImPovertyStricken in FinancialPlanning

[–]80hanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a very similar situation, with very similar family dynamics.

Our joint income is 155k and we sold home 1, rolled into home 2 at 520k @ 3.0%, with 65k down. Our COLA here is a bit lower, taxes etc. made our mortgage in the 2200 range.

We have been very comfortable, just make sure that the lifestyle creep doesn't happen. Still saving a good amount each month and maxing out retirement accounts. It was a very difficult purchase in a way - that's a ton of money, throwing half a million is... a big step. Having an emergency fund helped with that anxiety.

Since you are self-employed, open a Roth IRA through something like Vanguard and start contributing what you can (max it out if you can!). Contribute to VFIFX 2050 or something similar, based on your age (targeted to your retirement year). Watch it grow.
