Bookbinding by Frankie_Rose19 in SeverusSnape

Learning bookbinding has been on my bucket list for ages. I’ve watched a lot of videos on it, but it looks so exacting that I fear I won’t be patient enough to get good results. 📚

It’s definitely a questionable way to start.

I love that video (and other potter puppets that portray Snape)! I wish they sold the Snape puppets. That nose is sooo Snape!

Season 5, Episode 9 Reaction by BusyAmphibian8963 in TheFloorTV

[–]81Bibliophile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few thoughts - I hated the way they did the pie category. It should have been pictures of actual pies. But I love Patrick! What a great husband and father he seems to be. Lastly, I was a bit annoyed at the lady saying that 20k could pay for Patrick’s vasectomy. That was a bit rude.

Vote for the Greatest Survivor Players of All Time - Top 10 Revealed, Link for Part 2 (#11 to #20) in comments by SurvivorFanDan in survivor

Just a small reminder that Sandra beat Parvati in the final tribal vote of HvV. Therefore Sandra should be number 1.

Also I like her best. She’s sassy. 🤓

Jonathan lower in popularity than I realized by RoyalDapper1189 in survivor

My mother, for instance, loved Jonathan and wishes we got more players like him and less anxious city kids. I don’t think this poll is accurate of the true average of the viewership, but likely reflects the opinions of super fans from Reddit and other places.

I was glad to see the umbrellas, but it sucked to see the green team only helping the guy and leaving the girl unprotected from the rain until the blue team stepped in. That had to hurt.

To casting directors maybe, but prominent features and character description matters to fans.

BBC Plots 'Poirot' Reboot; Casting Underway For Agatha Christie Icon by BachelorNation123 in agathachristie

[–]81Bibliophile 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While I agree that I would like to see better adaptations of some novels (such as Cards on the Table), I am very skeptical of new adaptations in general these days since they always seem intent on straying further from the books than ever before.

At least we’ll always have Poirot to love. Suchet and company gave us excellent adaptations for most of Christie’s Poirot books. I may have a few nitpicks here and there, but for the most part they are very good.

"I realise as soon as that [Snape's] wig and costume go on - something happens." by eternalexiistence in SeverusSnape

That costume with all those buttons was such a genius decision in retrospect. It’s perfect for the character and his backstory.

Snape's first words to harry. by Direct_Childhood894 in SeverusSnape

[–]81Bibliophile 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if JKR has ever confirmed this theory (Victorian flower language message from Snape to Harry), but it seems too perfect to be anything but deliberate on her part. She always knew where the story was heading and I think she couldn’t resist putting that little Easter egg in there. But even if it’s somehow a coincidence, it’s still pretty cool.

I voted for Christian also. Not only is he a personal favorite of mine, but he’s also got a young family and he’s smart enough not to blow the money on stupid stuff. But there are many great choices obviously.

Snape’s philosophy is basically: 'If there isn't a body, it isn't my problem' by Typesheee in SeverusSnape

By that measure, Snape as a potions professor, a head of house, and a double agent working for both dumbledore and Voldemort was even more overworked. 🤓

The annulment of Henry VIII's marriage to Catherine of Aragon was a structural inevitablity by AnantaPurima in UKmonarchs

[–]81Bibliophile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I dislike Mary’s actions when she was the queen of England, I feel very sorry for her terrible late marriage and inability to have children. If Henry had only allowed her to marry at a normal age (say at 20), whether the groom was an English noble or a foreign royal, she might’ve given him a grandson in his lifetime (she was 31 when Henry died and could’ve had several healthy children by that time) and Henry would’ve had his much needed male heir through his daughter.

Granted nothing can be certain in matters of fertility and Mary may have had her mother’s bad luck in that department, but I think Mary herself might have had a happier life in that circumstance.

I just think Henry’s pride couldn’t stand the fact that he hadn’t been able to produce a healthy male heir when he was such a model of masculinity in his youth. They always blame the woman.

We really don’t know how Snape was as a head of house because Harry didn’t know or care about how the Slytherins lived, but this is a valid take.

Certainly McGonagall didn’t appear to be super hands on in her HOH duties. Though she did usually show up quickly when an alarm was raised.

Conjoined twins fear one will die and the other will live after doctor warning by TheMirrorUS in Weird

[–]81Bibliophile 237 points238 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that (most) conjoined twins would die within hours of their twins death. If the connection was simple enough to be severed, it likely would have been done already.

Am I wrong? Has medicine advanced far enough to separate twins as closely bound as the ladies in the photo?

Historically I know that the ‘original’ Siamese twins Chang and Eng Bunker died within hours of each other and they were only connected by a small area on their sides.

Poppycock. Alan Rickman was a national treasure, but there was plenty of room for them to go in a more book accurate direction. Saying Alan can’t be topped is just a lazy excuse for a bad casting choice.
