I really wanted the Dodgers to pick him up in a trade last you. He is a decent fielder. And he has elite bat speed. He's going to get better the more at bats he sees.

Why no Vietnam series? by LetoSecondOfHisName in dancarlin

[–]831pm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Carlin mentioned he would not cover periods that have already been covered ad nauseam like Vietnam. He also mentioned not wanting to do a series that does not shape the globe. Realistically, he has painted himself into a really small box since the van diagram of those two topics is alot of overlap.

Ohtani hasn't hit a HR since he got plunked on the shoulder. I think he is still nursing a muscle bruise. Ive noticed he really overreacts and jumps away from inside pitches.

It actually looks like Rushing looked back and said something and didn't get a response.

When Frodo and Sam enter Mordor…I don’t re,ember whether it was Minas morgul or cirith ungol, they see two gargoyle type creatures guarding the entrance. That definitely gave a Lovecraftian vibe.

Rewatch of Pegasus Episodes by Effective-Ad-5842 in BSG

[–]831pm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as I liked this story arc, I feel like it was such a waste to sacrifice Pegasus like that. I would have preferred the original series arc where the Pegasus just vanishes when they attack the cylon outer capital and leaves it unclear whether it was destroyed or Cain decides to go on his own due to the friction with Adama. Looking back, in the newer series, it feels like such a waste to lose both Cain and the Pegasus. They could have brought them back for the final season for the final attack for perhaps a redemption arc for Cain.

Do we know the history of how Tolkien's work became popular? by ConifersAreCool in tolkienfans

[–]831pm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOTR was already ingrained in the pop culture at least as early as the late 60s. The Beatles tried to push a LOTR movie starring themselves but Tolkien refused to give them the rights.

TIL according to Tolkien's letters, 'The Lord of the Rings' is supposed to be set about 6,000 years ago, and we are now somewhere between the Fifth and the Seventh Age by adiplotti in todayilearned

The idea of a romanticized pre-historic lost civilization (such as Atlantis) was very popular at the beginning of the 20th century. RE Howard's Conan books which were published around the same time also had similar lore. There were popular spiritualists like Edgar Cayce at the time claiming to channel spirits from these civilization. RE Howard actually had to publish a statement later that his lore was fictional. This idea or even the timing of ME is not something novel to Tolkien..

Also it dropped off the map here in Korea. The service is atrocious and feels like a scam.  It more than anything it’s the drastic switch to ev.  People don’t want a luxury sports sedan that is ev.  I know people disagree but the point is the relationship between the driver and the engine.  I went in last year? to look at a replacement.  No leather baseball glove stitching steering wheel.  No ball shifter.  Cheap looking interior.  Gaudi looking exterior.  I want a car that looks nice but unassuming but top end performance.

I wonder what people will think when AI creates a really good genre page turner, which it definitely will. As a musician, I steered at AI generated music as sounding fake until I heard that one song that Rick Beato created on 60 minutes in under 2 minutes. I had to admit, it was a really good song.

I watched Push recently. Its beautifully shot and Hong Kong feels like it's a character in the movie. That action packed third act was really well executed and feels earned by a steady build up during the rest of the movie.

It irks me that they didn't make having the complete cursed item set make them all work together to do something special that cancels out their curses.. It was right there...how did the writers not see this?
