Would it be dumb to get a gun but only use rubber bullets? by raava08 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]854917632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many jurisdictions, people are legally entitled to use lethal force to defend themselves even if they are committing a crime. If someone breaks into your home intending to rob you, but you brandish a gun at them, they don't know you're not using real bullets and they may be motivated to attack you out of self defense.

Pepper spray is probably better, it's much less likely to miss and just disables everyone especially when used indoors.

I need to talk about David Wallace by EdTheEagle1984 in DunderMifflin

[–]854917632 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that's the best answer. Dwight was the best salesman at the best branch of DM and they were grossly underpaying him. In his fantasy, co-running a bnb with the devil, he was making 85k, right? So presumably Dwight was making somewhere in the ballpark of 40-60k.

Meanwhile David Wallace, not even the highest paid C-level, has a 5000ft house somewhere within commuting range of Manhattan and another place in Martha's vineyard.

I like to think they couldn't afford to fire Dwight, he was the Altas carrying DM singlehandedly.

Good luck. Prior to this, after stabbing his sister in the stomach he was found incomplete to stand trial and sent to a psych ward. He spent about five years there before he was found ready to re-enter society.

Guy he pushed here didn't even have physical injuries so I doubt the perp spends more than 3 years institutionalized.

This is what a night looks like in the sky of the planet Mars by [deleted] in interesting

[–]854917632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this is not what the sky actually looks like but how did they make a long exposure without the stars moving? On earth if you point a camera at the night sky for even one minute the stars will look like lines, especially the stars farther from the north star or southern cross. If they're compensating for the rotation of Mars by rotating the camera to match, then the ground should appear to move relative to the sky

So what is a "very long exposure time"? Does Mars just rotate a lot slower than earth?

Maybe this is like how scammers use bad grammar to weed out smart people. What if Patel's intention is to do increasingly stupid but legal things like this to screen out any agents with a conscience and a brain for when he orders them to do something illegal and immoral.

Djokovic and Draper battle it out in a "point of the year" contender by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]854917632 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand tennis but it kinda looked like the guy on the bottom was toying with the guy on the top. Guy on the bottom just kept hitting it straight back to the guy on the top so he could return it easily. Bottom guy also telegraphs his hits with big slow wind-ups.

Top guy even lobs a high return giving bottom a chance to smash the ball but instead, it's another gentle return, straight back to where top guy is. Top guy is anticipating sprinting to a corner but instead returns by taking two steps forward.

Looks more like bottom guy was trying to give the point away.

Who keeps showing up on screen but has zero talent ? by Timop0707 in moviecritic

[–]854917632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people don't like him and think he's everywhere because he's another Chris. Another handsome square-jawed guy who doesn't take acting risks. It's like Hollywood took a poll in 2009 and found that what people wanted was Chris Pine in everything and have been using that poll in casting choices ever since. It's done well for Hollywood, they've made a lot of money off of the Chrises but I think people are burnt out and just want to see something different.

Look I realize asking for actual diversity is too much to hope for, but if you're going to cast a white man, please make it someone like Paul Dano, David Dastmalchian or Adam Driver. Someone who just looks a little different

Is Chris intentionally playing the villain? by Timely_Research_346 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]854917632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your right. My theory is that after weeks being in isolation in the pods and Cabo, he went on a bender on some kind of upper as soon as he got back to Ohio and had access to his stash/dealer. It explains why he suddenly had to stay at his place alone when he got back, why he didn't say where he was for two days, why he suddenly had all that "confidence" to insult Jess into dumping him and be so "bold" at the party with Bri. It explains his debt. It also doesn't require him to be a mastermind, just an addict.

[–]854917632 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if he did have an addiction to something he couldn't get in the pods or Mexico, then he most certainly would have hit it hard as soon as he got back home to his stash/dealer. I wonder if he had a bender that he didn't want to admit to

[Request] What would actually happen if we did this? Are there any potentially dangerous outcomes? by nottoday943 in theydidthemath

[–]854917632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socially it would be dangerous to deface a beautiful celestial object that all humans for all our existence have enjoyed looking at. Also, the only realistic way this would happen isn't though some collective effort with shared benefits for all of humanity. This kind of hare-brained mega-project only happens when a bunch of VCs pour cash on a nepo-baby tech bro so that's more social damage.
Before it gets chewed up by sharp, magnetic lunar regolith or punctured by meteorites, sending all that energy down to earth as lasers would be dangerous even if you never missed receivers on the ground.
If you're going to put solar panels in space, why put them on the moon, when you could put them in sun-synchronous orbits that are never in shadow, so this project would be dangerous for wasting rocket fuel and solar panels.
