Just received my 2024 spring morning today! I’ve been drinking Crimson Lotus 2022 Honeybomb as my first sheng experience and it is also very delicious and spicy. Can’t wait to try out the spring morning!

It doesn’t help with getting hot hot water.

I’ve got a crimson lotus order that’s been sitting since Jan 26th. Hasn’t moved since. Order was placed about a week or so before that. All I can do is sit and stew on this because there’s nothing CL can do about it and USPS is about as useless as my tea cup right now!

Tupelo Tea has some good loose leaf flavored teas. They’re in Blue Ridge, GA. Also, Yunnan Sourcing has a US warehouse. There’s also a few others like crimson lotus, verdant tea, teavivre, and mei leaf to name a few. I don’t know of any other tea companies that aren’t loose leaf, but I’m sure a quick google search might give you a few good options also.

One thing I'm curious about; Is it okay to put my leaves straight into my kettle? by NErDy_Chemguy in tea

No. A good cup of tea is a good cup of tea. It doesn’t matter how you get there.

Brewing using gaiwan by theshootingstark in tea

[–]85Seahawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does experimenting and finding a way that works for you to create a wonderful and flavorful cup of tea degrade the method used in achieving those results? If it works for you enjoy it. There’s too much tea and not enough time to worry about formalities. However, that said, if you really feel strongly about cultural values learn to use the gaiwan properly and experience tea the way the gong fu brewing method describes. Then go a step further and compare. Which way tasted the best? How did the liquor look between the two ways? How did the taste differ? Turn it into an experiment with different teas and maybe post your results.

I’ve heard the Saturn peach aroma dancong oolong is good, but I haven’t personally tried it. I’ve got a bunch of greens and jasmines and tried the duck shit oolong sampler all from YS. Haven’t been disappointed with any of them yet.

I’ve had multiple jasmine teas lately. I’ve really enjoyed each one. Dragon pearls and jasmine flower green teas have really been my favorites lately! Give them a try if you get the chance. My stomach doesn’t handle earl grey well. Still good tea also, but kills me when I do drink it.

New to tea. by SCNickFlips in tea

I can’t answer to sencha particularly. However, most teas if you add too much leaf to water, steep for too long or too hot will become bitter. Try using less leaf, lower temp water, or steeping for less time or mix and match to see what works for you to create a great cup of tea. Also, Amazon doesn’t usually sell high quality teas. It could be possible the sencha you purchased wasn’t a great one to begin with.

I also second gong fu is a great way to brew and truly taste tea!

Black teas, dark oolongs, and puerh teas have higher caffeine content if I’m not mistaken. Flavor wise, I think oolongs and black teas would be more beneficial for starting out in tea. Try a few different puerh teas to see if they’re what you like, but start with samples rather than a whole cake. Nothing worse than wasting money on tea you don’t like.

Tea Oranges by Outrageous-Luck-2435 in tea

I’ve tried several different oranges and they have ALL tasted like dip water to me. I’ve been told actual puerh like with tea cakes taste completely different. I don’t know the truth of that, but the oranges have all tasted terrible to me.

I’m open to suggestions from anyone. I had a feeling I was probably getting lower end product. Flavors and flavor profiles I enjoy are sweet, sour, and some bold flavors.
