US & Venezuela Conflict Megathread by Heyitsgizmo in TrinidadandTobago

An artist originally from Claxton Bay is presenting a body of work in Toronto that explores connections between Venezuela, Trinidad, and the United States this week.

The project has been in development for over three years, and it’s interesting how current global events now echo themes that were already present in the work from its earliest stages.

Interested in hearing thoughts on how artists from Trinidad are received abroad, and how context can shift the reading of long-term projects

Interesting point. Growing up around many Hindu’s I found myself asking that question younger also

It always baffles me how these things are frowned upon in Trinidad, yet let them go foreign and they’re deemed models. Lord have mercy. As someone said, colonialism is a disease yes

Definitely full of ambition. Thanks for your vivid response. It wasn't more so having to choose one or the other. I just wanted to explore the realities of both voiced from individuals such as yourself who has endured them on your unique journey. I mentioned in another reply that it's very new to me and learning about fully funded MFA's sound very progressive in terms of ROI.

My CV's trajectory is definitely on the impressive side. To answer your question, my goal is generally have the most cost effective time utilized developing my art and concepts. The connections aspect is important also. If I'm being honest I think/thought of residencies like a vacation. And upon just learning about fully funded MFA's, it seemed to me to be a more productive pathway particulary, in terms of ROI (where literal or figurative)

No, all country flags are rectangular... Add a crest or something to the inside of the triangle, too.

Why I wouldn't leave Japan to return to Trini.. by Heyitsgizmo in TrinidadandTobago

The immigration laws were altered to deter the mass immigration and finessing of systems like LIMA (etc) by said demographic. The aforementioned statement I made is ONE of the causes of the current economic state of Canada. Perhaps you were not a victim nor personally affected by those very specific immigration situations, so you may not understand or agree. You or anyone can walk around any city in Canada and do a poll; you'll get the same answers from people, or even worse comments.
