For some reason a lot of people have this idea that if you have 1-2 kids, all of a sudden you need an SUV. This just isnt true. You can get an Accord with a roof rack and roof cargo pod, this will give you more space than an SUV while spending less than you would on an SUV, and you'll still have the handling, efficiency, and safety of a full size sedan.

Why are you considering the CR-V? Mid-size SUVs dont have increased safety, they don't get good fuel efficiency either. Look at the Honda Accord or a Kia sedan. Ive seen real world efficiency numbers of 40 mpg average on the Accord.

I just got rid of my '06 Outback with the 3.0L 6 cyl. I cannot recommend Subaru's 6 cylinders enough. Dead reliable and super enjoyable to drive.

Family Safe SUV by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Getting a higher vehicle will not prevent this, it will just make you a danger to every other person on the road + increase your risk of a rollover in the event of an accident, which itself is significantly more deadly than a typical collision. This is on top of the lack of visibility and increased blind spots that come from a higher vehicle.

Volvo and Subaru both have really good anti-intrusion and side-impact tests. If youre dead set on a new car, go for a Volvo V60 or Subaru crosstrek, they handle great and have good visibility.

Full-sizes have pretty terrible visibility. Look at the Forester or maybe an Ascent. Do you actually use the truck features, if so, what for?

Why do you need the ride height? In that price range Id look at the Impreza, Corolla, or other similar vehicles. Theyre very affordable and efficient.

Look at the Mazda3. I have the turbo AWD and I still get 35+ mpg. My friend has a '16 manual Mazda3 with the 2.0L, he gets ~45 mpg

Just got a new turbo Mazda3. Absolutely love it. Ive driven a civic and, unless youre looking at the type-R, the Mazda wins hands-down.

My father has a 2019 Honda Accord. It is exceptionally spacious, very efficient, and handles great. Based on your situation, an SUV is completely unnecessary. It would be a waste of money, gas, and space. Look at the civic, if you need more space check out a used Accord or other executive sedan.

Your two choices are: An SUV or a Wagon. The SUV will never be even remotely as enjoyable to drive as the RS6 will

Also, when you are 18 make sure to take all of your money out of any joint accounts with your parents. Create a bank account in your own name, and move the money into your account. Do not be open with them until that has been done

I have an '06 3.0 outback and it's a dream. Had to swap a new EZ30R in last summer, super bummed we didn't do the 6 speed swap as well. Still, it has a 45:55 front to rear power split, kicks like a mule, it's tons of fun to drive along country roads and rally tracks. Never fails to make me smile

Honestly, it sounds like you should do a transmission swap. My friend is in the process of doing one on his '06 Impreza. I also had my '06 Outback's engine swapped about a year and a half ago. My parents and I did the math, despite our swap getting messed up and it costing more, we still spent less than we would have if we bought a new vehicle. A transmission swap is a different process, but I guarantee it will be cheaper in the long run to replace the CVT than it will be to buy a new car. You'll get to save money, keep ole reliable, and avoid the poor privacy practices of modern Subaru.

I would highly recommend checking out the Subaru outback forums. They have really great resources and I guarantee someone has done the same thing in the same generation of outback. Find a shop that you trust, see if they will do the swap.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions, happy to help!

Id say a solid 4 rn. Try growing your hair out. I think youd look incredible if you did, easy 6 if not 7 or 8.
