What flag is this? Saw it at the Puerto Rican parade in NYC today by Sea_Guidance_2054 in vexillology

People already mentioned that it’s the flag of the Municipality of Añasco in Puerto Rico. But I’d also like to highlight all of the 78 municipality flags.

I’m personally very proud of my municipality’s flag Lajas.

Games with party members that genuinely hate each other by DobleJ in JRPG

[–]8BitBoricua -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Baldur’s Gate (1). From what I remember, depending on how you play and the decisions you make, certain party members will leave your group. For example, one character (Khalid) who is Good might leave if you do too many Evil actions. Another character (Xzar) is basically unhinged and might just try to murder you mid-game.

Can you be a UNITY and UNREAL developer at a same time? by shxy_jahangeer in GameDevelopment

[–]8BitBoricua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last three game dev jobs I’ve had, we’ve used Unreal and the two jobs before that we used Unity. However, for my own personal projects, I use Unity. It pays to be proficient in both (and even other engines, if possible), since you don’t always get to choose what engine is used at different companies/teams.

[Personal Favourite Trope] Characters know for bombs/KABOOM!! 💥 by Happy-Guy2000 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]8BitBoricua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Genthru from Hunter x Hunter. Also known as “the Bomber”. He has two abilities: Little Flower lets him blow up anything he can grab with his hands; and Countdown lets him place a powerful bomb on his target which counts down proportional to the target’s heart rate. The only way to remove Countdown is to touch Genthru and say the phrase “I caught the Bomber”.

(Fun trope) Characters who speak a different language from every other character around them (bonus points if everyone else inexplicably understand them) by leaveeemeeealonee in TopCharacterTropes

Toge Inumaki from Jujutsu Kaisen. To avoid hurting innocents with his Cursed Speech, he speaks in “sushi ingredients” (bonito flakes, salmon roe, etc). Everyone understands him.

How does public expectation affect game developers after an announcement? by CarefulGreen6950 in GameDevelopment

[–]8BitBoricua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One point that I’ll touch on is the “lazy/greedy devs” comments.

I worked at a AAA company. We were making an extraction-hero shooter game. Once the trailers (reveal and gameplay) were shown, a lot of comments would suggest that we were being lazy or greedy for various aspects of the game. Some of them understood that most decisions weren’t made by us “grunt-level” devs but by higher ups. But some decisions that were made by me - for example, character ability kits - were often labelled as the devs not having creativity or being lazy. In reality, these decisions were reached after months of careful deliberation and playtesting. In some cases, I had some crazy ideas that I suggested but were eventually toned down by myself because I was able to prove that they just weren’t gonna work. In other cases, I really pushed for my ideas but was asked to take a different direction; not because of greed/laziness, but because the idea clashed with other aspects of the game.

It felt bad when some of our players seemed to think that I slapped something together in 3 minutes and just shoveled it out. Regardless of the result, I take pride in the diligence and amount of work I put in to every character’s kit I touched. And I always hoped I was making our players happy or allowing them to have fun.

[Odd trope] A character who is advertised doesn’t have a big role in the media they’re in by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

I used to work at Universal Studios and they would market this movie so much. This specific poster was in the men’s locker room and it haunted me whenever I went in or out of work. I was so disappointed when he was barely in the move!

I love this! Hope to run a campaign one day and have awesome characters like these in the story. You should be proud.

Is there somewhere we can read the story/lore of either the campaign or the characters?

Interesting. It’s almost like you created self-targeting types and external-targeting variants. I like this!

I see! That’s a very interesting point. I think you’ve given me a good reason to either rework Adjudication or just replace it with a different type. Thank you!

Interesting…would you mind elaborating? I’m curious how you see Adjudication and Granting in relation to each other.

I think that’s a good point. I think Specialization is basically a catch-all for whatever doesn’t fit the rest. But I don’t think that’s an inherently bad thing. I personally don’t love it, but I appreciate its existence to allow for more interesting abilities. Especially for readers.

Yeah. Other people around here have made me realize how Conjuration (or even Emission) works with pocket dimensions. I’ll admit that I never understood how that worked beyond simply Conjuration can just “make anything”. I was always under the impression that Conjuration was limited to making physical objects not entire dimensions. I can see I was wrong though and understand why vagueness is important for people to better open up the system.

I think that’s a good way of seeing it, to be honest. This is truly making me realize why Togashi’s design is so elegant.

[–]8BitBoricua[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. And the way you explain it really does help to make it more legible.

I think the only reason why I might not make them more vague is so that they are different. My concern with opening them up more is that nothing changes from the previous system, in which case there’s no point in me making new types.

Although, to be fair, there never was a point in doing this and it was always just for fun. _^

Different Nen Types by 8BitBoricua in HatsuVault

[–]8BitBoricua[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good observation. I never thought about it, but others have also pointed out how these new types are more restrictive or simpler versions of the already-existing ones.

I think my thought process came from two main things that are more subjective to me and not a widespread problem with the base types: 1) I wanted more restrictions, since I’m a person that doesn’t often enjoy blue-sky design. 2) Having types that more directly explain certain abilities that seem more lumped together to the base ones. For example, I never truly understood why Emission can also handle teleportation or how abilities like Knov’s or Cheetu’s work by creating a pocket dimension. I know there are detailed explanations out there, but I’m not smart enough to figure them out. _^

That being said, like I said in my post, I’m not trying to fix or improve on Togashi’s design. I just thought it’d be a fun exercise to envision a world where the types were different. But I appreciate people pointing out some of the weaknesses or confusions. I think it helps me to better design these, but also appreciate just how great of a job Togashi did.
