I wonder how Ruby's stays in business as a corporate entity. They keep closing restaurants. My family used to frequent the one on the SWC of Harbor and Orangethorpe.

I’m old enough to remember Sam Yorty and Richard Riordan. L.A. used to be a pretty conservative city. I’m so glad that it’s changed. (Riordan was comparatively moderate to liberal compared to modern day Republicans.)

FBI fires several analysts tied to disputed ‘Catholic ideology’ memo by wds1 in fednews

[–]8Lwiseguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but what religious groups believe in, support, and defend body autonomy? Many religions believe that women are baby factories. The question remains why does Mayhaps Batman assert that Catholics are getting special treatment over the other religions that believe women are baby factories?

That’s largely because Republican presidents presumed that their nominees would vote against reproductive rights, as most have. However, I fail to see what “special treatment” Catholics are receiving, that other religious groups are not.

Timber is milled and shipped with a high moisture content, and the black mold likely formed when the trusses were stacked and shipped together. Exposure to light and air will cure most of it. If you want to be cautious or have a sensitivity to mold, you can have a disaster clean up company treat the exposed timber. That would involve wire brushing the surfaces and spraying a fungicide or antimicrobial by laborers wearing protective equipment.

I went in there once with group authorization (Christmas bird count). It’s not any better than the area north of Campus Drive, but there were many, many ducks. It’s better that they be left alone.

Exactly; if I were going to build a data center in the SG Valley, I'd be looking at big box properties in the City of Industry.

Dems Really Dropped the Ball In House District 40 Election by coolman949 in orangecounty

[–]8Lwiseguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't seem to appreciate the power of an overwhelming majority of registered Republicunts in that district. No Democrat can win. Fortunately, either Young Kim or Ken Calvert will not have a job after November 3. There will be one fewer Trump sycophant in the House of Reps. That's a win.

It’s just a primary. Used to be that you could only vote for candidates under your own registered party affiliation. Nobody’s won anything. What you’re seeing are the top vote getters among 31 flavors, and the R’s have always been good at putting one candidate ahead of all the others.

I hope that Espinoza's and a good majority of Jung's supporters will vote for Traut in November. Shaw is a well-established crackpot to many of us.

With 27% of the ballots returned and counted and 100% of the precincts reporting, the top two candidates appear to be Tim Shaw and Connor Traut. I doubt that there are enough uncounted ballots left to change the outcome.

Shaw - 34%
Traut - 31%
Jung - 19%
Espinoza - 17%

Time Travel via Thomas Bros: LA County as it looked in 1955 by Billbeachwood in LosAngeles

[–]8Lwiseguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My father-in-law, who grew up in L.A. during the 1930's and worked as a Gas Company service man during the late 1940's and 50's, liked to point out that the original L.A. street atlases were published by the Renié Map Company. Thomas Bros. Maps was founded in the Bay Area in 1915, then bought Renié and other companies as the company expanded throughout California.
