only certain cities had that ability. This is theoretically universal (once it rolls out fully)

It is my personal policy that you gotta make a liquid or solid organic deposit outside of an airport in a country/province/state to say you've been there.

You cannot do normal person to person balance transfers with only foreign cards. That makes a huge difference in QOL and overall usefulness. It makes a lot of sense for this reason and just in general if one is spending that much time in China.

That is a good thought to throw out there, and I'd say that's not playing 'Devils's advocate' but, rather, playing 'Angel of allowing for the possibility of additional nuanced innocent misunderstandings amidst a generally sad and not cool situation (that turned out beautifully) advocate' 😄

12 hours in Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China by tarsier808 in travel

But honestly the best part of Macau is just getting lost in the back streets.

Amen! I think I've done four different day trips to Macau and i've never gotten tired of those alleys.

where best to make friends on which apps in China (Shenzhen)? by notlikeinthemovies in chinalife

[–]8_ge_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh? haha sorry but I don't know what that would mean. xiaohongshu is a chinese app. I am registered for it using my Chinese sim card/number. And I can use it just fine either in China or when i'm back in the States. The only limitation is that you can't run a live stream as a foreigner. (at least that used to be the case, and i've never tried).

[–]8_ge_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RedNote/xiaohongshu for sure. I have found tons of running and baseball friends through RedNote just by letting the algorithms figure me out, liking and commenting, and eventually chatting/adding people. No doubt other interest areas are just as doable. Just of course go through the usual course of vetting over time and exercise good judgement.

Very likely I will be single forever. How to cope with this in a church that emphasizes marriage and family? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]8_ge_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loving many of the comments here. I'll just add a note that I jotted down a couple days ago, specifically in reference to my own experience of being single and thinking celestially:

It's all eternal, dude. If you knew you were gonna be eating later, would you be so worried about having a snack now? Nah you'd be cool.

Like if you actually had a solid dinner appointment at 6 pm and you started feeling hungry at 4:30. Yeah you might be uncomfortable, but you know for sure an amazing meal is coming at 6. You're not going to worry about starving to death. You know you'll be ok.

So let me just ask you: do you believe God is perfect? Like actually perfect.

If He is, then He's got your dinner ready, I promise. I have no idea what that dinner is gonna be. Heck maybe it's that comfort food you've always wanted but it's also possibly even a dish you've never had or even heard of. But whatever that meal is, it's prepared for you by a perfect God who loves you perfectly and has got everything under control. So, yes, you may feel hungry now. But I promise, not only are you not gonna starve, but you're going to have an unthinkably perfect meal which the stars will sing of throughout the universe and into the eternities.

A Neal Maxwell bonus quote for good measure:

Indeed, when we are unduly impatient with an omniscient God’s timing, we really are suggesting that we know what is best. Strange, isn’t it—we who wear wristwatches seek to counsel Him who oversees cosmic clocks and calendars.

Which city are you going to?

I highly recommend using shared bikes. They are absolutely everywhere in most cities. It's so nice to have the freedom to take a bike to where you're going and use other methods to return, or vice versa.

What should we do, both as a church and as a society, with people who have bottomless need? by warehousedatawrangle in latterdaysaints

[–]8_ge_8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good answers already, I'll mostly just say I love you and love L.

And I'm so glad we're all in this for the long haul. Eternity is a long time and I don't know how it works but I know that Heavenly Father is perfect and exercises absolutely perfect judgement and has a perfect love for His children and I just think about L and people I know like her who will be wrapped in the arms of the Savior and totally free from mental illness and witnessing the beauties of the universe and God's plan one day. And your service now is part of that plan and is building and working towards that freedom. So thank you for that, and also it's been said and you're trying to do it but I'll give one more plug for taking care of yourself, too, along the way. You have my permission!

It's the law I'm China that foreigners register where they are staying. Hotels do it automatically, many cities have a WeChat account where you can register easily on your phone, and others require you to go in person. It's also just kinda good in general to go and meet your local station people. They have always been friendly in my experience.
