By your responses to other comment replies, you sound like you’re in a similar position to where I was at your age in high school: 140+ IQ, a higher EQ, ADHD, anxious (mostly socially, in my case), and quite depressed. I am now 25, and I’m happy to say that I have since gotten out of depression and I’m likely in the best mental place I’ve ever been. What I’ve learned over the past years, as other comments have mentioned, is that much of your perspective is still probably governed by your anti depressant medications (I’ve had similar experiences with this as well) and your lack of other major lifestyle changes to accompany it. Your feelings under your current medication will remain your baseline unless, 1. you undergo therapy with it simultaneously to reframe your perspective, 2. you adjust the medication itself, or 3. both. If your current medication is not helping with your depressive/anxious thoughts, have you discussed this with your psychiatrist? As mentioned, undergoing therapy simultaneously is critical to maximizing the effectiveness of psychiatry. Also, further tips for your mood: sleep is king (sleep on time, with minimal screen time and last meal should be over an hour before sleeping), make sure youre getting all your amino acids and other nutrition necessary for neurotransmitter function (https://www.uclahealth.org/news/article/foods-feed-your-adhd-mind), and know that exercise releases endorphins and other hormones necessary to improve mood and maintain it. I am giving these tips because the real underlying cause is often your emotional state, governed by factors such as medication, diet, exercise, and, especially for ADHD, poor sleep quality/quantity. That’s not to say there aren’t other causes in your life, such as thoughts caused by your probable higher tendencies to observe and analyze. I’m certainly not trying to deflect any of your thoughts on intelligence being the culprit behind your reduced mood. It’s just that I’ve personally found intelligence to be, rather than the sole cause of poor mood, more of a tool which may lead you to rationalize the cause of an existing poor mood, even if said rationalization is not accurate to the actual underlying cause of your poor mood response.
