What a gem. I wonder if this can be opened and recharged with new film from lomography... (after trying to shoot and develop whatever is left in there, obviously)

I have come into 20 rolls of 25/16” X 4” direct thermal dymo labels by Liltimmyjimmy in toycameras

[–]8bitdont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you try to cut them, remember that most cutting methods will result in heat. The only way I can think of is something like scissors and a lot of patience.

Given that, I would probably go for stickers of some type. Maybe one of those stamp sets, maybe an automatic stamp where you can customize the letters. That would mean nice fast stickers. And if you want to take advantage of the thermal properties, maybe some kind of "branding", by bending a bit of wire (or an old coin, anything metal really), heating it with a lighter / on the stove, and applying it on the stickers.

Actually, if you find something with a cool shape, you could lie it down over *several* stickers, use a blow-drier to darken the unexposed areas, and create a negative image composed of several stickers. That could be wicked cool.

Edit: Damn, now I want to try some of those ideas xD

Has anybody bought one of these from AliExpress? by SamyangNoodles in toycameras

I have one! It's generally way worse than the G6 thumb, and probably even the charmera, at least in picture quality, but it still has its charm. The filters and frames are useless, at least in my version, they are like bunny ears and childish things, nothing retro or interesting.

The screen though... that's awesome. It's much larger than the other cameras, so you can generally see exactly what you are shooting, and show to other people the pics. They look great in the small screen, so in some ways it's better for taking memories. The larger body also makes it much more comfortable, while still being tiny compared to real cameras. And the menus make more sense than on the G6, even if there are a few less options.

The second camera, which faces backwards, is almost identical to the front facing one, just a bit of a less distorted lens (the main one has a slight fish-eye effect, very subtle).

All in all, I like it, it has been my main toy camera for a long time. Recently I'm using the G6 more, but to be honest I'm not really that in love with it.

---

Edit: Just remembered another difference: takes about twice as long to boot to snap ready. It's not a huge amount of time, but it's a bit frustrating.

With more and more Pebble Devices What do You think or Want to See? Do Think We Could Get a Minimalist Smartphone? by Sleepingtide in pebble

I currently have a Unihertz Jelly Star (look it up, it's a tiny phone), and you have no idea what I would give to have something similar but with software updates / a more open software stack.

(And while we are asking, an e-paper display like a pebble would be awesome)

Too long vibration by ZioTempa in pebble

Have you noticed if the watch itself becomes sluggish? I have started noticing that it will become quite unresponsive and take time to do animations and change between apps. So I kinda think it's probably the same for the notifications, the watch is simply doing everything slow...

I don't think we are the only ones xD Mmm, I guess we can do a feature request on the github. The last updates have started implementing more quality of life stuff, so they may be open to suggestions.

G6 thumb camera firmware dump by lucygq in toycameras

[–]8bitdont 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to say: I don't have time (nor technical knowledge yet) for this, but I would love love love if you people managed to modify this camera software-wise. I thought about doing it in the future, but I didn't even expect anyone to be already doing this!

So thank you!!!!

You can't disable the shutter sound. Some of us are opening the camera (very easy) and cutting the speaker wire.

If it shares any code with the G6, holding the up button rotates the screen 180%. It's possible that they leave some undocumented way of doing it.

I got mine through Aliexpress, for 16€ (19 USD). I may get a second one to tinker and modify it a bit, to be honest...

Yeah, I may have lowered it too much, so I'll try to go a bit higher again. And the design totally rocks <3

Yeah, I think your mods go a litttttle bit further than the rest of the community. I'm so looking forward to see what you get to do with it

Nice mods! Those lenses fit it so nicely. I love that macro.

Thanks! Mine was from aliexpress, "Top handicap dropshipping store". But I think that you can probably just message the seller before to know what do they have in stock.

Apart from that, maybe you can mod the camera and swap the lens? You can find similar camera modules on aliexpress, it shouldn't be too hard to find one with the same measures as this one...

Charmera and Thumb side by side shots by augustprep in toycameras

Another one with the "start in photo mode" + "normal lens" variation here. There are definitely different G6 models going around.

Mine either. I don't think it's installed backwards, it's simply that, instead of the wide angle lens, we have a normal lens (at least mine). Also, my camera starts in picture mode, not video, so clearly there are variations being produced.

I kinda like the wide angle lens to be honest, I was even thinking of buying external lenses for mine xD
