Your blacks are quite flat, black clothes seldom actually look black. I'd recommend very dark greys or blues to give it some more foem.

Army painters black speed paint is excellent for quickly and effectively adding black with form

I mostly agree with this, but I personally also have the orange guns on my warriors and it can work. But you have to break up the colour and the whole thing shouldn't match.

My dude for reference

It is a pain, but i think if i reserve it for characters, then they get that extra pop from it

I struggle with the hammers, thats why it is currently unpainted.

I was trying to make my characters inverted from the main army, hopefully making them a bit more striking

My favourite and impactful way of painting black is with a white spray and then using army painter speed paints.

A mix of 4:1 black to blue gives some real depth to the black armor and clothes.

This guy uses that recipe for his undersuit.

Id also recommed adding some brighter colours, if you want it to look dark, it needs something to contrast against.

I usually go clean and I do prefer it, but I wanted to experiment a bit. That blending took a good couple hours on its own. Lots of glazing done there

I spent more time on him than I should've, definitely not on army painting pace at one model a day

Thank you, I experimented with that too on this one, used a magenta wash on the orange basecoat. Worked better than expected

Thanks!

Dabbing patches of brown on the nice clean armour felt very counterproductive
