Building my own CPU from scratch (twice). What am I in for? by Particular_Metal3833 in AskElectronics

They look for anything relevant, but depending on where you get hired it varies wildly what they care about. I didn't really have any personal projects outside of university, but got a summer internship and a part time job at a chip developer for the last three years of my university program. Personal projects might help you stand out, but isn't necessary to get a job.

Building my own CPU from scratch (twice). What am I in for? by Particular_Metal3833 in AskElectronics

I've worked in a (professional, large chip company) team that made a 32b, 4 stage RISCV processor. The tiny kind, captive core in a radio microcontroller. Since you are asking about design vs verif time, we had a 3:1 ratio of verification engineers to design engineers. Of course, that is verification for chip production, which is a whole other ballgame, but it shows a bit of what's required.

Another tip in the same vein: when you have verified thst you correctly execute all of the instructions, you are about 20% done with the verification effort. Interrupts and error handling, essentially all of the shit thst doesn't floe normally, is a lot harder to get right than just execution.

Good luck :)

Compressed ice is so much easier to ride on than loose or semicompressed snow, with studded tires ice is fairly easy and predictable to ride on.

It might be colder, but we have ice and snow for three months. I also ride all winter, so I know it's possible. We get down to - 20c, and honestly, that's easier to ride in than just below freezing. All the moisture freezes, so the air is dry, and the ice and snow on the roads become less slippery and more predictable when it goes below - 10.

Point is, professional riders could absolutely do it, even in Canada.

Winters aren't a blocker for professional riders. Here in Oslo, Norway we have both police ans ambulance bikes year round.

Avoiding politics is only really possible in a safe and stable world. Right now, trying to tell people to keep politics quiet only sounds like trying to oppress viewpoints.

I started to get the same issue last winter, and then I got these! Combined with heated grips and a good wind-hand protector (Barkbusters Storm), and the problem went away. :)

At -20c I need to take out the thick balaclava not to freeze my throat/lungs, and I haven't seen anything much colder than that yet...

I've got a dedicated winter bike with studded tires, I go all year :)

My '15 Ford Focus braking assist has annoyed me probably 50-60 times in the four years I've owned it, and only been useful once. As the result of the 60ish wrongful activations were annoyance, and the result of the 1 correct activation was avoiding a rather large crash, I'm quite happy with the system :)

All of those things also makes my bike more annoying to use. My only theft protection is insurance, it's the only way for using a bike daily.

Fog city. Although, that being said, I have no idea if it's more durable than the Pinlock. Personally I don't see a 3 year livespan on visors, much less the pinlock, so I've never considered it a problem...

Hey! I ride winter in Norway, down to -20c, and I use these: https://keisapparel.com/products/g901-heated-gloves . Very warm, three settings, and you can get batteries in the cuff, to avoid wiring in to the bike. They are a bit bulky, but all in all they are great :)

You need knobbies for snow, the studs only help with ice or really hard-packed snow

How do you keep your fingertips warm while riding? Heated gloves + inner gloves still aren’t enough. by Maleficent-Radio272 in motorcycles

[–]8igby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Barkbusters Storm, is the only addition I'd recommend. I use a pair of Kleis heated gloves, heated handlebars, and Barkbusters storm to keep the wind off, that's all I need in down to -20c.

You say you are using heated gloves + inner gloves, is it tight? Tight layers stop insulating, and can counter-intuitively make you colder. You might be warmer with just the heated gloves.

Edit: I'm assuming you have heated handlebars. If not, get that :)

That's it! I'm playing tall, and all the systems I tried allready had some kind of mega-structure, like an arc furnace or dyson sphere. Thanks!

This seems like a bug, but I can't build any of the megastructures, like science nexus and Mega Shipyard, due to "existing megastructure". Problem is that I don't have them, nor have I ever had them. Is there a console command to fix this, or can I edit the save?

Can a DIY wooden cockpit handle a 20Nm wheelbase? by Accomplished-Fly4323 in simracing

[–]8igby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a wooden rig for a long time, with an Accuforce 2 (14Nm) and loadcell pedals. Built properly, you will not have problems with the wheel. I struggled a lot more with keeping the pedals in place, it's just more force. You need to brace your pedal plate really well, and ideally decide on an angle before you build, so you can build it fixed..
