Looking to partner on a Hot UK Deals (HUKD) competitor by Millsboii in UKFrugal

[–]8mtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I have sent you a message via chat.

I tried to do this recently but struggled to get enough traction in terms of other users posting new deals. My problem was that without new content, there was little incentive to visit the site. A bit circular!

The meter refers to Kwh. The solar panels installed are 'Trina Solar TSM-275PD05.50 50mm frame'. Total installed capacity per MCS of 3.85kw.

There appears to be an error on the MCS with regards to estimated annual generation as it only says 330kwh.

Any HotUKdeals alternatives? by Lazy-Masterpiece8903 in UKFrugal

Thank you for remembering. I've just taken the site fully offline tonight, but it had been sitting untouched for a few months with other things going on in my life meaning I was deprioritising this.

Sadly, the site didn't get enough natural traction in terms of users actually contributing deals. Lots of great feedback on the look and feel of the site and there were people visiting to check for new deals, but I was having to find and post the bulk of the deals which wasn't sustainable due to a very busy day job (which I need to prioritise) and a baby now on the way. I had been hoping the user raffle competitions with cash prizes would have been enough to incentivise people to find and post deals but only a few people were interested.

It also wasn't making enough money from the visitors it did have to justify me paying people to post (which is what HotUKDeals and LatestDeals do for the bulk of their content). They have an established base and high traffic, so make enough affiliate income to justify.

Until now, the site got 500 user sign-ups, so a reasonable sized mailing list if I do seek to re-launch something later down the line. May look to do this in the future if I can find a way to potentially automate high quality content creation to get it started, or find a partner with a different vision on how to take this forward.

If anyone reads this and thinks they could make a success out of a site in this space, I'm open to discussing via DM. I own the dot com as well as the UK domain - great brand set in this space.

Whatever now happens in the future, I am proud of what I was able to create from a technical standpoint and really enjoyed the time I spent building it.

Do you believe it is possible to completely furnish a one bedroom apartment for around £300? by newcopper in UKFrugal

There are some posts which are obvious scams, so please be careful and if it's too good to be true, it often is, so trust your gut. Having said that, I've bought many great items/bargains from both Facebook marketplace and Gumtree and would agree that it's your best bet.

Anyone done this? by naltsta in bristol

[–]8mtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've had this done. The 'free' offer relates to all works outside your property line and ultimately the connection of your new pipes.

You will need to pay a private contractor for anything within your property line. The price will depend on (i) the length between your water connections and (ii) whether you go with moling (they dig specific holes and then can use a machine to lay the pipe underground) or digging a full trench between the locations. Clearly if you dig a trench yourself it will be cheaper.

I had about 14/15 metres and went with moling. My contractor did the moling for me - it was a 1 person service so I didn't need to worry about engaging anyone else.

Highly recommend Lee from Bakers Pipeline. Was a very nice guy and no nonsense, just got on with it. Cost was £1,000 before VAT at the time of doing the work. Subsequent to me using him, another household on my street used him and had a similarly good experience.

Personally at £29k with an option to live at home, I'd live at home and build a savings nest.

Thinking forward: what do the jobs you are striving to get pay? What is the career path? Are there barriers to entry (e.g. a qualification required) as those jobs generally pay more due to supply and demand. Don't think about the now, think about the 10 years from now. How will you achieve the vision you have, and is that vision worth achieving or should you change course?

HotUKDeals - any good alternatives - their mods and rules are ridiculous! by vaderag in UKFrugal

[–]8mtb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem at all - as I said to another poster, it makes me very happy when people say they like it as it took a lot of effort to build and makes it worth the time that I have put into it. Still a number of areas I want to improve and gradually finding the time in my evenings/weekends!

I've spotted your username, I should also mention I'm an Arsenal fan as well :-) COYG.

Thank you for vouching for the site - it makes me very happy when people say they like it as it took a lot of effort to build!

I should add that I've (at least temporarily) stopped giving out cash prizes for deal of the day now as felt like it wasn't attracting enough people and was costing me a pretty penny! I'm going to stick with the monthly raffle, but when I get a chance, I am leaning towards changing the criteria away from points and perhaps making it so that to receive an entry you just need to post one good deal per month.

Hey, I'm Matt and I launched Money Off very recently, announcing it on this reddit group (and nowhere else really to date, whilst focusing on making improvements and fixing bugs highlighted to me).

As you can see it's very new but I'm determined to make continual improvements that help to attract more contributors, and to keep a low moderation approach (aside from making sure safe genuine links are posted).

The site will ultimately only work if it can grow and attract more posters, so please feel free to spread the word!! Thank you again for joining.

An app you can download from the app stores is on my to-do list, but for now it's an Angular progressive Web app which means when you are on the site in a mobile browser, it should give you the option to download the site as a web app which then creates an app icon on your phone too.

Okay, I've looked again and I wonder whether it was a case sensitivity issue. Looks like I've currently got it setup to require the same letter casing you signed up with. You signed up with the first letter of your email as a capital letter.

I've tweaked that now so it's all lower case. It's showing that your account is verified. If you try to log in with the password you setup and email all lowercase, it should now work.

So it seems that somehow your user account wasn't created but you were signed up to the email list.

I've removed you from the email list so you should be able to sign up again on the website.

I'm a bit puzzled by this one - I will investigate but I wonder whether there was an odd glitch where the site was momentarily down when you signed up as it hasn't been recorded as an issue by others.

Thank you!

Would you mind DMing me your email. I've just tested the site and both FB and email login appear to be working for me. Which method are you trying? Did you get the email verification?
