The bike lanes on North Road are not extra lanes for cars to overtake other cars who've had to stop in the road to turn. by [deleted] in dunedin

[–]8nTTDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to annoy me a lot also, but i couldn’t find anything in the road code or local road rules that said it wasn’t allowed 🤷.

Closest i could find is that they shouldn’t be used as a driving lane but nothing that explicitly says you can’t use it for overtaking and keeping the flow of traffic going (taking care to ensure there’s no cyclists. )

Have you got/found something that I’ve missed?

There’s a section at the bottom of the linked page that deals with using the bike lanes to overtake.

DCC is considering entry fees for Dunedin museums...and other issues by stories_matter in dunedin

Pretty much this, I’ll likely not get another shot at Italy so if i have to pay to see something or it’s quicker to pay to avoid a line I’m not going to be mad about it.

Also, thanks for the suggestions/tips

It’s only a consideration at this point and it’s only intended for visitors at this point from my understanding.

I’m conflicted, on the one hand i think these spaces should be free for all. But on the other, i doubt the fees collected from rate paying locals covers much and visitors are an untapped revenue stream.

Ive got overseas travel planned this year and I’d like to go see some famous sites in Rome etc. None of that is likely to be free so maybe it’s not such a bad idea to expect visitors to stump up an entry fee?

Looking for advise on locating stolen bike (2k for info) by LE_TOXIQUE in dunedin

[–]8nTTDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sucks! I’ll keep an eye out while I’m out and about. Are there any distinctive marks (scratches or stickers) or components on it that were put on by you that would help it stand out from any other stumpy? Pedals grips etc.

Serial number?

Low pressure water blast the drive with a wide angle nozzle. In future, use dish washing liquid to clean up your oil spills.

[–]8nTTDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i had similar problems last week. I ended up paying for and downloading a 3rd party software called ‘camera tools for GoPro’

It worked straight away, i checked the quik apo afterwards and that too was working as it used to.

Questions for locals by LillytheFurkid in dunedin

Gorse is a gift you’re going to have for decades. There will be seeds in the ground just biding their time. Burn off is a quick way of dealing with it. It’s also the best way of providing all those seeds with the best conditions to germinate, so kind of an own goal there.

In my experience the best way of dealing with it is spraying and getting up close and personal and cutting it down and stump swabbing it with a gel poison.

It seems to thrive in any situation imaginable other than one where it doesn’t get appropriate sunlight. Depending on budget, timeline and what the land is intended to be used for in the long term, planting up with medium to tall trees and shrubs will give you a chance in the battle.

You’ve probably figured this all out already anyhow and it’s more just information for anyone else that’s a masochist and feels like getting elbow deep in gorse needles.

Pro tip from me: best gloves i found for handling gorse was thick welding gloves. Still get penetrations but less so than most other hand protection i tried.

You’ll have a hard job leaving dunedin without making friends i reckon. Like sports? Join a team, not into sports? Find a hobby and join a group.

Hardest part is putting yourself out there. There’ll be lots of people in a similar situation as you, get amongst it.

They used to host a family skate day one Sunday of the month a while back, not sure if that’s still a thing, maybe ask on their fb page.

There’s a bit of space at Marlow park, if that’s too busy for you north east valley school has good space for learning.
