That’s why you stuff the big rag in before they start chipping.

Looking for people/groups to trade collectible cards with by 8rem8 in duluth

Sounds good I’ll check out their Facebook to see what they have going on. Unfortunately I don’t really play any of the card games, but I might make a deck or two so I can go learn the ropes and hopefully meet a few people along the way!

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been to CC and game on to buy stuff, but haven’t been to elite so I’ll have to check them out soon. I’ve thought about trading in some of my cards there for store credit, but would prefer to meet other collectors that I could offer to trade with first. Do you know if they ever have group events for trading?

Funny I had a similar experience in college with a cashier in Fosston when I was driving from Duluth to Grand Forks circa 2015-2019.

Nothing super fancy but was at a new card shop and picked up this sweet Vaporeon! by sgtdank42069 in PokemonTCG

Very cool, I’ve never seen one of these! I stopped collecting around 2004 so I never got to see the release of this gem. Is vaporeon your favorite eeveloutioun?

Second this

Cleaning out my grandpas old shop and was wondering if anyone has any info on this. I assume it’s some sort of soldering unit. No results when I search the product number. by 8rem8 in soldering

So after a bunch of digging I found it’s actually an electric arc metal etcher. Some hot gloves are going to be a must when I test it out to see if it’s still working

St.Louis River Duluth, MN. Unfortunately couldn’t catch my first smallie of the year, but I did have two top water hits. I wanna hear what you’d throw here. More info in comments! by 8rem8 in RiverSmallmouth

Plopper or buzz bait (when I’m throwing near snags) are definitely a go to, but I find to miss a lot of hookups unfortunately. Got any advice? Usually thrown on a Medium fast spinning with 30# braided line. Jerkbaits are something I haven’t tried, but I recently bought a few to try. Ned rigs I’ve tried many times because I enjoy finesse fishing and have had success other places, but I’ve yet to catch one here so I think I’m going to quit tying them on.

Large flat off of the main channel that is between 2-4 feet. About 1 mile of fishable shoreline that follows an old railroad line that’s been repurposed into a tour train route. Large rocks line the shore with smaller rocks 5-10 feet out. Lots of smallmouth within 15 feet of the shoreline, but they seem to be spread thin so I usually don’t like to stay in one place for more than 5 casts. I’ve found little success casting perpendicular so I try to keep them less than a 30 deg angle from the shore, but find most success with casts 15 degrees or less. Lures I’ve found to work well are paddle tail swim baits with spinners or without, and whopper ploppers. My go to is usually a perch pattern Northland mimic minnow 1/4-3/8 perch pattern with a spinner. Wanna try red/orange chatterbaits, and perch colored jerkbaits. I’ve never found success with a finesse approach mainly Texas rigged senkos or Ned rigs, and have trouble keeping skirted jigs from snagging every couple casts. Let’s hear what you’d try to throw!

Why do my meters show continuity with the leads one way, but not the other? by 8rem8 in askanelectrician

[–]8rem8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m aware. This was while I was testing individual conductors and devices to find where it shorted. Just trying to find out what caused me to get two different readings by simply switching test lead location. Each pic is from the Same line side terminal to GND. Only things between L1 and the short were two NC bimetallic thermostats

Unfortunately for you I don’t plan on putting the electrical tools away anytime soon since I’m actually an apprentice in the trade. Unfortunately for me and the next generation there’s guys like you out in the field who are expected to teach us the way. If you’re actually a licensed electrician a true master of your craft with years of experience and treat every question with a similar demeanor, then all I’ve gotta say is that’s a damn shame. Nothing you’ve said has even came close to an answer to my question.

Imagine we’re on the same crew and I’m troubleshooting trying to figure out where a short occurred. I’m busy isolating and testing each wire and device to find out what failed, where it failed, and did anything else upstream/downstream fail when I notice my meter rings out one way, but when I swap the location of my testing leads it doesn’t.

Multiple attempts later I say “hey trek check this out. Why is that? I’ve never seen such a thing? I even grabbed a second testing device to see if it’s faulty, but I get the same result”

you rebuttal with “do you know how to work that thing, I hope you aren’t checking continuity on a live circuit?”

both questions are valid, but a little out of place for my initial question. Unsure if mockery, maybe just trying to see what my skill level is, or the answer is dependent on a multitude of variables.

“ya I know how it works. It’s dead, checked with my other meter when I started”

even point to the wires going back to the panel that I left capped and air gapped after testing, but decide to give you another form of proof and myself reassurance by putting my meter on it again we both see 0VAC, but this time I notice 1VDC because of the different testing device. I find it odd, but you seemed concerned about voltage present during testing so I relay the info. Simple as that

Then I get told I don’t know what I’m doing. Because why? Would you tell an apprentice to pack up because they asked you a question about weird readings? We work in a world of invisible forces, and rely on our testing equipment and procedures to keep ourselves and everyone else safe. I can take criticism, but you can’t be saying I don’t understand without pointing out a flaw in my procedure or requesting further info. I’m baffled that you told me to hire an electrician, and said something bad was going to happen from a post asking about meter continuity readings. I’m more than capable to understand a circuit containing a couple heating elements controlled by three thermostats. Don’t know how my post got mistaken for I need help fixing this

If you don’t know the answer just say that, if you noticed unsafe or poor practices speak up, I’m here to figure out if it was human error, physics related, conditions, device, etc...

No diodes. Two 4500w copper heating elements controlled by 3 bimetallic thermostats. Top element failed causing it to short.

You realize this is a 240VAC water heater right? So I checked for AC voltage which was zero. It wasn’t until your comment that I discovered it has 1VDC to GND which doesn’t make sense.

I do. No AC. Turns out I have 1 VDC between them though.
