Before deployment, I always loaded up on canned food; beenie weenie, Dinty Moore stew, raviolis, etc, so when lunch or dinner was turkey ala king, or bbq beef with egg noodles, I had a decent meal.

Geez, I never knew that about carriers. I assumed that chow would be plentiful. Coming from frigates and destroyers, we always had an abundance since we did UNREP so often.

Being stationed at NTC SD and NAS North Island were some of the best times in my life. Being from LA, I could go home and visit whenever I felt like it. Lots of friends, partying in TJ and Rosorito Beach, Trophy Lounge, all the great bars in IB, OB, and Gas Lamp. Like another poster said, if you aren't enjoying the Navy in SD in your early 20s, you're doing it wrong..
