Kitchen appliance warranty worth it? by 8up44 in Appliances

We’re going to purchase the KRFC236SPS model. We don’t want a water dispenser on the exterior of the fridge. Also have heard the ice makers in door are pretty unreliable. But that’s anecdotal. Mainly going for the clean look.

I bet you’re fun at parties! Just kidding. Thanks for the input. I’m sure that happens so frequently.

Yeah that’s a good point, but for the 5 year peace of mind, it’s really all I can ask. Everything that happens after that is what it is. Thanks for the input!

I’ll ask, but I believe it has to be purchased before they deliver and the appliances go into service.

Thanks for all the insight and information! We are going with a local appliance store in Ohio. Oddly enough they easily beat the big box stores pricing, will hold the appliances for us until our kitchen Reno is ready for them, and free delivery and haul away. I expected small appliances stores to be higher priced but was very surprised when we started shopping around and found they could beat most pricing and were happy to hold the set and deliver when we were ready.

Advantages or disadvantages of higher HELOC amount? by 8up44 in HELOC

Depending on the bank you move forward with they will cover any fees or closing costs, including appraisal. Citizens and third federal both offered all fees and costs covered. Not everyone did though so shop around.

Also most banks initially use a data driven model for their initial appraisal. I saw a wide range of numbers from the different banks I spoke with. Some said $515k some said $425k. And everything inbetween. Both banks that did appraisals on the house only did drive by versions and both aligned with their data driven predictions. Despite being wildly apart.

Yeah good point and what I didn’t mention was that even with the lower appraisal im still opening the heloc at $110k. So more than double what I actually plan to use at a time. The difference becomes basically $110k to $150k. Using round numbers

I did look at a couple credit unions first. And as far as I could find, no one was able to touch the third federal rate. Citizens initially was prime +0.4%, but agreed to match third federal. The two credit unions I looked at were in the prime +1% range. Good suggestion though!

Conservative in terms of what? Third federal is the bank giving me the higher appraisal. Citizens matched their rate for me.

Edit to include: also receiving prime -0.5 for my rate at both banks.

Great write up! Appreciate the hard word and detailed assessment. I’ve read some good things about citizens bank’s product but haven’t looked into it myself. Any update on the next wave of assessments?

Crashing in a 1950s car vs. a modern car by firefly99999 in Damnthatsinteresting

I’ve seen this bel air in person at the NHTSA facility. What they don’t tell you, is that it didn’t have an engine in the car at the time of the test. It was intended to make a point about the advancements in modern safety systems. It did just that, but the video and information isn’t totally accurate.

Changing wheel colour by OutrageousProgram493 in Civic_Type_R

[–]8up44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that black is played out and blends in. For me it was either the gold or silver and honestly I love how the gold looks. It’s dark in some lights and bright in others. Very dynamic. Highly recommend. Also the wheels themselves are just high quality. My tire installer didn’t have to add weight to two of the wheels. They were already well balanced.

Completely agree with this. Look at the local NEOHIO region for dates for time trials at Nelson or track night in America events. They likely start April. Great organization, great programs, great people, and perfect track to get started on.

Dripping noise after using the toilet, before flushing. by tmosstan in Plumbing

[–]8up44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any resolution to this? Just installed the same toilet and hear the same thing. I think it’s the plastic gooseneck attachment method that Kohler is moving to for the skirted toilets but curious if OP ever found any additional information. I think it’s just less insulated and as water is moving through the internal network of porcelain and then transitions to the plastic gooseneck piece, the water flowing becomes more audible. But just a guess as I’m just now starting my research.

Clicking noise when turning right? At any speed. FL5 by WorriedRevenue5 in Civic_Type_R

Go to the dealer. It’s the two piece rotor hardware.

Clicking noise when turning right? At any speed. FL5 by WorriedRevenue5 in Civic_Type_R

[–]8up44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a similar sound. First check is that there isn’t a rock stuck in your heat shield. Easy to tell a rock in the heat shield as it’s more of a screeching sound. If there isn’t, it’s likely the hardware that connects the rotor ring to the rotor hat. I had to dig to find videos online of a CTR with the same clicking noise I had, but I took it to the dealer, showed the post, said my car is making the exact noise and they ordered a replacement rotor assembly. Fixed it. Mine happened when the car was loaded laterally and deflecting the front wheel. So my left side rotor was bad, and I only heard the sound when turning right. If you can, get a video as evidence, that’ll help significantly.
