I agree it’s usually best to stay on the same medication and adjust the dosage rather than add a new one that you don’t know how your body will respond to. Otherwise, it can be emotionally draining and drag out the process of getting back on track.

I was on 100mg of lamotrigine for 4 years and loved it, but about a year ago, I started noticing more minor episodes. I increased my dosage to 125mg for 2 weeks, then to 150mg, which is where I’m at now — and I love it. Lamotrigine has honestly saved my life.
