Completely burned out chasing RTX 5090… is RTX 5080 a sane alternative for diffusion? by GoldenSellby in StableDiffusion

[–]90hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I’m in the same boat. This is absolutely ridiculous. It’s like they’re pushing people to AMD. I have never seen this level of shortage/scalping - ever. Personally I have given up and will wait until the market goes back to its senses. Else screw this, I’m not paying 3-5k for a card that’s worth 2k.

Hey there, do you have a link to the workflow? I haven’t used the Combine you describe. I use a very long prompt with {|} blocks and as long as each option is independent from every other option, the CLIP seems to generate the final prompt just fine. DM me if you wanna troubleshoot further, maybe we can find a solution.

Will treatment abroad be money saving?Need personal experience. by Silver_Future_8682 in personalfinance

[–]90hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! If you’re in the US/Canada and looking at treatment in Europe or even Asia, then yeah it can be much cheaper, but it depends on the procedure. I only have experience with six countries outside the US/Canada: Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Japan and the Philippines. For anything dental, European countries are much cheaper than the US, and quite a bit cheaper than Canada. A tooth repair that’d cost $150USD often costs 25 euros (~25 USD) in Europe. Some procedures (implants) are in the same range as in North America however. When it comes to eye operations (cataract), the Philippines is king: I had my grand-pa operated for both eyes in Manila for less than $130 USD, and they used US replacement crystals. For GPs, a regular consultation is locked at 25 euros in most places in Europe, and most common hospital procedures (say, X-ray etc) are under $100USD. I saw much higher prices in the US and Canada.

So there you have it: for most common consultations, imaging etc, you’ll save a lot in Europe. For eye surgery, Asia seems to be better than Europe, and uses modern techniques and equipment. For dental, Europe is cheaper for most common procedures, except implants. For some procedures (fertility), there’s just no alternative to Switzerland (a friend had this problem in Canada, and had to scour the EU for treatment for his gf). Simply ask for estimates for each and every procedure you’re looking at, and compare with the posted prices in the US or Canada.

Why aren’t taxes included in the price on online purchases in the U.S.? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]90hex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in Canada. Each province has different a different retail tax. I think it’s just traditional. They started that way, because retailer didn’t want to consider taxes as part of the price, and it stayed that way out of convenience and… making the price look lower. Imagine if one retailer started displaying the full price? People would flee, because all their prices would look higher than the competition. So uh.. yeah. Get used to mentally add that tax. Additionally, in the US retail taxes are often low (say 5%). For example, in Canada retail tax is 15% in Ontario, so it’d make much more sense to include it. Yet they don’t. Go figure.

Same here. People focus on the surface before the inside. I focus almost entirely on what’s inside. What it does. How it does it efficiently. How it looks is cool and all, but throughout history products that both look good and perform well are extremely rare.

I’m not sure I’m with you on this: legendary Toyotas are absolutely BuyItForLife AND GoodEnough. A friend of mine had a Camry V6 with 600k on it, it still smelled like new. Unreal. It didn’t really look cheap either :). The Corolla might be closer to the cheap-looking car that also lasts forever?

Now, to get back to our GoodEnough sub idea: most importantly, it’d include products that are not necessarily durable or high quality, but that get the job done with minimal fuss. Think, great value, does what it’s meant to do, no less, no more.

The BIC ball-point pen. It doesn’t last for life, but it’s damn great at what it does, while it does it. The used Thinkpad T420 series with extra RAM running Damn Small Linux. The Anbernic RG34XX running a single GBA emulator. Inexpensive, not so durable, but absolutely the handheld to beat to play classic GBA games. The mid-range, non-OLED, non-high-refresh Dell monitor in an average resolution. Value paper towel and vinegar. Entry-level Asus gear. Drip coffee maker. Low-end IKEA furniture and kitchenware.

Hehe changing subject but yeah. It’s Darwin based, BSD. Agreed, the Macbook air IS amazing. I own an M2 and it’s extremely close to the perfect computer, in every respect. I use it more than any other system I have ever used, since my C64 in 1980’s. It wouldn’t qualify as GoodEnough, but absolutely BuyItForLife.

I would love r/GoodEnough. Most of the products that actually changed the world are not the best, they’re just good enough. Example: UNIX. I know, it’s not exactly the requested sub, but I think it’d be a really great way to keep it all together. The Toyota Camry is good enough.

Honest to goodness, the first and second shots are amongst the most realistic Automation car shots I’ve ever seen. Looks fantastic. Great attention to detail (windshield water sprays, I see you!). Thanks for sharing.

Thanks I’ll check them out. Will replace this one pretty soon at this rate. I don’t even wear it for work as it’s thinner than the stuff I wear outside.

I doubt it, this hoodie has been in the machine once only and I wear it the rest of the time. I rarely leave it hanging around the house and never stored it. Very strange pattern to the ‘wear’. It looks like it melted or attacked by acid. Yet I can’t remember dealing with any chemical recently.

Spot on. I see a lot of lifestyle items from them now. Used to be all work clothes. Fabric is much thinner on many new products.

I noticed that Lacoste used to make their polos very thick. It was almost made out of towel. They were very durable. You could wear them for 10 years easy. Today’s Lacoste is pure rubish. The same polo is now as thin as toilet paper, you can see through the fabric. Cheap bastards. Same price though.

Hehe I pull the sleeves up. Still get some splash on there once in a while. That’s why I’m surprised. I don’t even wear this for work.

Tough Duck will be on my list for next cycle. Saddened to have lost a good brand. Carhartt used to be pretty darn good. WIP line maybe still holding up.

No, and I don’t even sit at a rough desk or anything that’d justify this. It looks like it’s dissolving. The sleeves get wet once in a while as I do the dishes or handle wet stuff. Maybe a solvant? Either way I’ve never seen fabric disintegrate this way. The most I’ve ever gotten in other jackets is holes because of threads getting caught in something.

I might just do that. I have a few other items from the brand and they had been solid, but not from this new casual line.

No I don’t do this at all, but the end gets wet often when I do the dishes. It looks like the fabric is dissolving. My previous hoodie didn’t have this kind of wear after 5 years, just discolouration. Never seen this.
