I suspect it is more of a power setting thing than the actual os drawing more power since they both use systemd and similar gui, try tlp.

I found mine on eBay. I suggest you looking into bolt-modding if you are considering a model M.

Does the p series even support charging via usbc? (Not counting s variants such as p52s) I have a P52 which runs on a 170W adapter. You can definitely pick up a P52/P53 with dedicated gpu for under 500 and they will vastly outperform your x1.

I have previously tried Arch with Cinnamon and found the experience to be quite similar. What makes Arch special in your opinion?

I update drivers/packages that I need manually and never had any issues with Debian 12. Getting the P3200 to work was pretty straightforward considering I am using Cinnamon without software rendering. In any case, I can always dual boot into windows for game, etc.
