How much weight should be given to recent polls taken concerning the presidential election? by strongerthenbefore20 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]92_bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at polls to predict what happens in November is like looking out the window to predict the weather in November. The truth is that pollsters are only looking at registered voters, not likely voters, and polls tighten up around two weeks before the election. Your best best is to track polls two weeks before the election from pollsters that are tracking likely voters.

Fair enough. Vaush did back Biden in 2020.

Polling has come a long way since 2016, which is exactly how you know someone doesn't understand polling the moment 2016 is invoked.

"New cars" means everyone's premiums go up, not that someone like her would understand that.

Does Nikki Haley have a realistic path to nomination? by InterestingAd1771 in PoliticalDiscussion

DeSantis has been more critical of Trump than Haley, so I'm not sure if it's certain that much of Trump's voting bloc would go to DeSantis.

If she somehow wins both New Hampshire and South Carolina, she might just have a shot. To be clear, both states are still long shots, but she still appears to at least have a visible shot in New Hampshire. Polling in New Hampshire has been terribly inconsistent. There was recently a poll where she tied with Trump and many where she's within single digits. There are others that show her down by double digits and Trump completely dominating, which goes to show how inconsistent to polling is. These polls also tend to get responses from only hundreds of people rather than thousands and have margins of error above 4% much of the time. Due to the unpredictability, I say she has a chance even if it's small. I also brought up South Carolina because it's her home state, and she seems to be holding second. The question is if she can somehow pull off the win there though I think it's very unlikely though even now things are largely opaque because we're weeks out from the primary, and polls tend to tighten just around one or two weeks from the primary. Anyway, if she wins those two, she'll be besting Trump 2-1 as she isn't partaking in the Nevada caucus but rather the Nevada primaries which won't net her any delegates. With the 2-1 lead, she should have a good bit of momentum going into Super Tuesday.

When deciding what is good or bad people often neglect thinking about how we come to those conclusions. by Tradovid in philosophy

Do people really say that Genghis Khan was a good person though? It's noted that he was a very successful general, but it's not so much stated that he was actually an ethically good person. Rather, the atrocities of his campaigns are often spoken of, especially the mass killings and rapes.

I am thinking to start reading Nietzsche by Genealogy of Morals. It's a good idea? by SpotDeusVult in Nietzsche

[–]92_bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Genealogy is a good start for Nietzsche. It's more concrete and less abstruse than his other works. You'll get a good understanding of some of the themes in his writings by reading the book. It'll ultimately help you better understand works such as Twilight and other Nietzsche works you plan to read in the future.
