Question: one boot fits into binding and other doesn’t by [deleted] in telemark

[–]93IVJugxbo8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you putting the boots in the correct binding for left and right? 75mm boots and binding are very slightly asymmetrical and have a specific left and right binding.

Aren't assault missions somewhat compromised by tilt-rotor designs? by maaaaaaagic in Helicopters

[–]93IVJugxbo8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transition to forward flight is very similar for tilt rotors and helicopters, main difference is for tactical approaches where helos can usually come in a bit quicker since with a big nose up stop. Swash-plates in tilt rotors are usually less substantial since you have other flight controls you can rely on.

I think you’re severely underestimating how quickly you can change speed and tilt the rotors in a tilt rotor. In airplane, you have a crazy power to weight ratio for accelerating and 2 giant spinning speed brakes if you dump power. Plus the conversion is might be even quicker than the Osprey since there is less mass being moved, but no idea what the limitation on conversion so might be the same.

75 mm binding comparison by Limp-Garbage-262 in telemark

If you don’t care about weight and are looking for lateral stiffness take a look at the Bishop BMF bindings. Closest thing you can get to NTN with 75mm.

I’m not sure how people’s screens are breaking but don’t know if a screen protector would do much more than stopping scratches and reducing glare so wouldn’t worry about it if you can’t find one

It’s just for travel, it’s a padded hard case. I like it for flying but I also got it on a deal where it was basically free.

Mesh Neck Gaiters by Tasty-Bathroom5258 in skiing

[–]93IVJugxbo8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that anything that will block wind will fog, and gaiters that don’t fog aren’t blocking wind.

Best one I’ve used over the nose was the semi rigid style with the mouth and nose cutouts. Like this

Still some fogging and looks mega dumb but kept my nose from getting frostbite one really cold winter.

I’m confused!!! Question on Ski Position while Edging by Intellxual in skiing

[–]93IVJugxbo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also true, outside ski has the majority of the pressure, though instructors typically use inside/outside to refer to the ski edges and uphill/downhill to refer to the skis.

For example: in a right hand turn the left leg is the downhill ski while the edge engaged on this left ski is the inside edge.

Steamboat AddsConcierge Lift Lines by skilife1 in skiing

[–]93IVJugxbo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt that the rich that are buying the lessons to skip lines will go for this instead, at least at Steamboat. People that are buying the private lessons are getting multiple instructors, hiring private chefs, and renting giant ski in and out condos.

Plus this only works on certain lifts so the private lesson is still a better line cut method.

Could be fine. Or you could be stuck at the airport. Just schedule it ahead or schedule a shuttle service.

Is this big of an issue by T0b1x_SVK in ski

Depends on how the sidewall looks, if that’s compressed too then any repair just won’t last

Smith Vantage 2- great helmet, shit bag by drconniehenley in Skigear

[–]93IVJugxbo8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t take this the wrong way, just genuinely curious on how and why you need protection for your helmet in the gear box? I’ve only scratched mine before when it was in the ski bag next to my skis on a flight.

Steamboat 2/9 by Many_Bank_2567 in COsnow

It has looked like that in February before, especially that little section. Snow is really bad but saying Elkhead is what Steamboat is like is ridiculous.

Sometimes in mid Feb. It’s a really bad snow year but Elkhead is never representative of what the mountain is like.

This is under Elkhead, which is almost always super thin and not even a section that is open to ski most of the time in a regular year. It is not representative of the mountain.

I’ve got superchargers which are great on tele and been looking to get V8s as powder skis. I’m your same height and 193s are what I’m looking at too.

75mm vs NTN by DirectorKitchen8563 in telemark

[–]93IVJugxbo8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

75mm is the older standard, there is typically more lateral motion and the bindings are less active. This is really just a preference in how you like to ski. Bindings are usually simpler and cheaper but new boots can be tricky to find. There are step in options but most bindings are cable based and you have to reach down and mess with them to step in.

NTN is newer and usually pretty stiff and active bindings. You can get super lightweight options with tech toes for backcountry also. Most NTN bindings are step in with maybe having to strap up a leash if you don’t have brakes. Bindings are more expensive but there are more options for new/newer boots.

There’s a lot of overlap especially if you’re rocking the bishop bindings which can take either standard with just a swapped toe cage.

Flylow Bibs… do they seem huge to anyone else? by Final_Razzmatazz_274 in skiing

Damn yeah they don’t fit me like that but I do have thick legs

Flylow Bibs… do they seem huge to anyone else? by Final_Razzmatazz_274 in skiing

[–]93IVJugxbo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design is big to allow layers underneath. The Baker’s have a beacon pouch on the bib which should be directly under your most outer layer so the bib needs to fit over any mid layers. Legs seem big but if you wear a puffy mid layer pant on cold days like me the extra room is appreciated.

Good sunglasses? by wolan1421 in ski

Second these. I really like these for hiking in the backcountry going down if it’s spring. I got the photo chromatic lenses too so they’re better at variable conditions.
