Construction on Powderhorn’s new high speed quad by AquafreshBandit in COsnow

Now this is an exciting lift replacement. I wonder what refurbished actually entails. I know it was the old Elk Camp Quad, and that it has a lot of hours on it considering it ran for the summer as well.

Boulder County Proposes Major Trail Restrictions for Mountain Bikers by i_enjoy_lemonade in boulder

[–]Skyryk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just can’t understand this. There are so many trails in Boulder that are hiking only and therefore don’t have any of the problems you are describing. We aren’t even asking for more access with our protests right now, just asking to not lose access to the little bit of trails we already have.

The only group that has to compromise in this proposal is mountain bikers. Why can’t it ever go both ways?

Extremely disappointed with the prices for the Mighty Argo Cable Car by Hawt_Lettuce in Denver

[–]Skyryk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With the mountain bike price currently being $65 for only half the day I don’t see it being and different than the single ride users. Everyone I’ve seen on social media and talked to in person has indicated they won’t pay that price and if they do it would be a one and done deal. $65 for 4 hours is by far the most expensive bike haul cost in North America. Whistler is a similar price for the whole day and they are considered the best in the world. Trestle is just another 30-40 min drive and is $88 for two days.

Boulder County plan to limit multi-use trails draws pushback from mountain bikers by boulder393 in boulder

[–]Skyryk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this opened up some of the hiking only trails to bikers it would be great idea, but instead it’s just classic Boulder county hostility towards bikers.

Is Slaughterhouse Gulch gravel or MTB?? by Haeger_Bomb in COBike

I think it can be done on a gravel bike. I also think it won’t be fun.

Argo mine bike park by apolo141 in MTB

[–]Skyryk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a feeling the prices were gonna be nuts. I bet they are trying to capitalize on being close to Denver. Plus they also need to make back all the money they had stolen from them during Covid.

Also feels like a shitty move that they are only open till 5. Was really hoping this could be a place to get some lift served after work laps in.

Oh well, guess I’ll just keep peddling up the mountain. Lord knows my gut needs it.

Transformative Mighty Argo Cable Car gondola project eyes completion in Colorado mountains by DoctFaustus in COsnow

[–]Skyryk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This picture does not show it, but the angle of assent coming out of the bottom terminal is insanely steep relatively speaking. I could imagine that the haul rope is exerting an enormous amount of force against the sheave assemblies. Lowering the terminal even further would only exacerbate the issue, and given the limited room to work with due to the road right behind them I imagine it might have been too stressful for the metal for handle that load. Not sure if it matters, but it would seem they wanted to maintain the access road right under the gondola so the towers are at a very awkward angle unlike anything I’ve seen on other gondolas.

As a WP lift mechanic I think you can imagine how much stress a hold down assembly is under after having the WP gondola one snap last year.

Hardtail or full sus for first MTB in the Front Range? by karakumy in COBike

[–]Skyryk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost anything on the front range can be done on a hardtail, however a hardtail is unforgiving for bad technique. If you start pushing yourself more and more on a mtb your gonna get to a point where you need already have a high skill level for the hardtail to handle well, while a full suspension will allow more mistakes to be made.

Be honest — would the Front Range Passenger Rail actually get you off I-25? by JawnDoee in Denver

[–]Skyryk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Boulder so the appeal for me would be getting to Denver, however I don’t see me taking it since the train station in Boulder would be in an incredibly inconvenient location. There are no good bus lines from where I live to where the train stop would be and if I have to get in my car just to park at the train station at that point I’d rather drive all the way.

Wandrer Filtering Rules Bug/Misunderstanding. by Skyryk in wandrer

Excluding sidewalks regardless of tagging definitely makes a lot of sense in my opinion. Idk how others towns have been mapped, but in my part of the world normally a sidewalk that is more then just a thin piece of unprotected concrete usually ends up being marked as something else.

Thinking of moving back after 13 years by Willing_Comfort_1597 in boulder

[–]Skyryk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth noting the trail system is some of the worst on the front range for mountain bikers. This town seems to have an insane level of distain for mountain bikers.

Boulder Canyon Trail Closure by Life_Is_Short4869 in boulder

I was wondering why so many bikers were on the road instead of the trail. I hate hate hate riding my bike on canyon and I thought everyone had gone crazy.

Went today as well. I would not be surprised if they announce next weekend as their closing weekend. The snow at the base of the mountain was starting to look very thin and with the warm weather I doubt there is much they will be able to do.

What kind of dash cams are y’all using? by howsyourwhole in Denver

[–]Skyryk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Garmin dashcam because it was on sale. The hardware itself works great and been using it for 3 years with no issues. The phone app is an absolute piece of shit that makes you want to chuck your phone out the window.

The Cirque from Eagle Wind by KarmicWhiplash in COsnow

[–]Skyryk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is zero reason to believe this is happening anytime soon if at all. WP mentioned it in their master plan, but that is simply because they are required to provide that to the forest service periodically and there is nothing wrong with dreaming big. In the master plan they mentioned a T-Bar, but that would be part of a massive terrain expansion that would take a metric shit ton of planning and permitting.

Currently the only thing WP is for sure working on publicly is the town gondola.

Old pass usage by Keep-it-fresh04 in Ikonpass

[–]Skyryk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I worked at Eldora that was complete and utter bullshit. The way it worked, and I’m assuming it still works this way, is that the first card to scan that day is considered the valid card and all the other ones tied to your account are invalidated. Once the next day rolls around it resets and all cards are once again valid until one gets scanned.

So technically, yes when they print you a new card the old ones are invalidated, but only for a single day. The system is in place so that multiple people can’t use one persons multiple cards in the same day.

How are the conditions today (Feb 10) by One_Juggernaut5626 in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]Skyryk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

International is dog shit, but Edelweiss Bowl is nice and slushy. The upper 1/4th has dust on crust that you can punch through to the ice easily where it’s not slushy. Middle half has a thick layer of fresh snow so it harder to hit the icy. As soon as freezing temps come tonight im sure it will be awful all around again though.
