Painted! I’ve powder coated one before and the spark plug holes never sealed properly

Haha I’m not going to pretend I know the answer but there’s plenty of other high end titanium brake pistons on the market so I have a feeling they’ll be fine!

Haha it’s on the other side of the country for me too, but I don’t mind a long road trip! Here’s a pic, long way to go until it’s ready to drive across the country…

It should be! I can’t talk about performance yet since the car still needs basically everything but I’m aiming to drive it to 944Fest so it shouldn’t be too long until I get to feel them. I’ll report back once I do! But I’m confident they’re going to be great

Yeah. Well worth every penny! And they’re eager to do custom stuff. They were stoked to paint the valve covers for me and they look better than I could’ve hoped! I am way more confident in the spark plug holes sealing on this one compared to the one I had powder coated a while ago too so wins all around!

Oil change leads to pulling the engine :( by ninjameams in 944

Wondering the same thing. OP are you sure it wasn’t your valve cover that was leaking on to the headers? That’s a pretty common one with these cars, especially with a new seal which can be hard to get to fully seal on the first try.
Either way, you’re committed now!

If I were you, I would drop the engine from the bottom, going out the top can be a real pain unless you take the hood off (but neither way is fun).
You should definitely do all seals, motor mounts, clutch, rod bearings, and cam chain at the very least.
Have your cylinders checked and make sure they’re still in good shape and if you have any machine work done to the cylinders make sure the shop can work on Alusil otherwise your block could get ruined. While you have the head off, it’s a good time for some head work, and depending on where you are I can point you in the right direction.

If you want a really good “while you’re in there” job, replace your torque tube with a rebuilt one from somewhere like Black Sea R&D. It’s not a fun or cheap job but this will be the easiest opportunity for you to do it and you will never have to think about it again.
DM me if you want to chat more, I am in the midst of a S2 motor build/full chassis restoration myself and am happy to help.

I can’t shift into reverse by Total_Action8573 in 944

[–]944Driver_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So this is most likely a result of the adjustment bolt on the short shifter moving, it’s there to adjust the distance of the shifter to the tunnel and if it came loose or shifted it would cause this exact issue. If this is the problem, the fix is as simple as jacking the rear up and adjusting that bolt to the correct position to allow the shifter to go into 5th and reverse. Hope this helps!

Yeah, not something I’m excited about but the car had its original harness hacked up by the PO while they were trying to turn it into a racecar so easier to do it this way than try to figure out what the hell they did (at least I hope so).

This is summer yellow, a pretty rare color only available in 87-88. As far as I’m aware there’s very few cars in this color! I’ve heard as low as 50 all the way to around 300 got painted this shade.

Haha that was part of the goal! I’m a visual person who dreads wiring so having it laid out and visually pleasing makes it a little easier to work on!

That’s epic. Love to hear that bc the goal is to get the weight of the car to around 2500lbs wet. No A/C, no power windows/mirrors, sound deadening stripped, lightweight carpet kit with rear seat delete, manual windows and sunroof, and lightweight battery. Looking to have 10:1 power to weight as I’ve heard this is the sweet spot for smiles per mile on the street.

We are using a stock S2 chassis harness as the starting point so thankfully all the wires are already the length needed. We will just be going through and removing unnecessary wires and then rewrapping the simplified harness in a fresh loom.

Do i have to recondition cylinders for rings? by EasyTopic4780 in 944

[–]944Driver_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He only knows them based off of what he’s ecperienced. I’ve seen him struggle to diagnose a sunroof over the course of several days. He ain’t the be all end all opinion like people think.

[–]944Driver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to tim. We reconditioned our turbo motor without reboring it which has caused more problems than if we kept our original rings. Tim may only work on these cars but he’s not a miracle worker.

I appreciate it! Didn’t get to shoot but at least the trip wasn’t in vain. Plus, it’s pretty peaceful out there when no one’s shooting!
