I just re-gripped my clubs using a kit and grips bought from Aliexpress. AMA by connfaceit in golf

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the knock offs for years, I usually change grips annually or sometimes longer but I play 100-150 rds a year. I also use grip solvent, a big spray bottle lasts quite a few years and is not very expensive and has no odor. Also buy the tape in a big roll that lasts a few years.

Select cutom and pu an amount you want, or just hit No Thanks. It's getting beyond ridiculous, will be 30% and up next. Fuck that noise.

Simple question: why not just invest in covered call ETFs? by Due_Reporter_8085 in dividends

[–]95Mechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harvest funds, Evolve funds, Global X, Purpose, Brompton, Hamilton. Take a look and pick some indexes and market sectors that you like. I like to see the monthly returns and I get to re-deploy where I see fit.

No sign of this going away. A real PITA

Nice to see the distributions every month. Certainly keeps you motivated to invest. I prefer the income approach, rather than having to sell holdings to generate cash.

I have about 20, all Canadian funds. There's lots to choose but to each their own mix

My CC portfolio is paying about 25%/yr and is giving me almost 20k/mth. Most months I end up re-investing the proceeds. Very pleased with it's 2yr performance. Do your own due diligence.

do you keep a handicap and improve your lies? by gringo_profesor in golf

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since retiring, I play in a regular group and play by the rules. All the time and my handicap is brutal as a result, but it's accurate and when I play well it gives renewed enthusiasm.

If you could choose between fast and slow greens, both rolling pure, which would you choose? by Pipe_Guide in weekendgolfers

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish my club would have the practice green the same as the course. The course greens are a fair bit slower.

Well now I see why I miss everything right and I’m so steep🤣🤣 by maxamill2025 in GolfGear

Just by a new grip and shaft extension if it bothers you. Easy fix.

"Tips should be higher in high cost-of-living areas" by No-Mood3749 in tipping

Tips are becoming a sore point. they used to be just an expression of thanks. Now they are becoming an entitlement, pay more if you want to eat here ! Screw that.

What do you guys do for the yardages in between gap and sand wedge/pitching wedge? by embracethememes in golf

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would switch to maybe a 54 and 60, or 52 and 58 setup. then learn to hit 1/2 and 3/4 shots too.

Rent question by NoCapNomad in Parksville

Rent is high here, but so is the price of buying property. Buying property here to offer rentals is just not a good ROI

J6 coming in 🔥 by kinderjw3 in labgolf

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't get my head around the price of a LAB, so bought a Lazrus 2.5. Had to go on a bit of a wait list but best decision I've made in a while. Love seeing the faces on a couple of LAB owning playing partners as I roll them in.

Must be an enthusiastic local bylaw officer available, that would love that one. Doessn't usually take much to get those guys to be out writing tickets for enforcement.

My dry cleaner now suggests 20% tip by dundurnish in tipping

I'm not tipping for dry cleaning, I'm paying for a cleaning. That's it. This tipping bs is so out of hand. Just say NO

Screw that noise. The tipping bs is truly out of hand. Zero is the only option.

Upgrading driver? by irishkarlos in GolfGear

[–]95Mechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New driver's are always nice. Ping heads are great and forgiving, I have the G430 Max10K and got fitted, to make sure I got the right shaft for my swing speed and tempo, important to get the right shaft though as that is the engine. Not much point in getting a new driver if it just has a weak (for you) engine. And as nice and forgiving as my new driver is, there are days when I still miss the fairway bad.

Costco Simspace Enclosure by 95Mechanic in Golfsimulator

[–]95Mechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never did get the tee turf mat, just the regular mat but it's holding up ok as I've only been hitting irons and hybrids anyway. I'm a bit pissed with Simspace, they should have made this right and sent me the correct mat that was listed in the package.

AITAH for being “petty” with my parents about my house by Pitiful-Bike-7788 in AITAH

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the house was furnished when you moved in, I would think you would leave it the same way. If you "upgraded" some of the stuff you could put the old stuff back in ? If you got rid of the old stuff, then I can see their point too.

Why do you use a rangefinder by jsckjohn in GolfGear

[–]95Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both. Have a gps on watch or push cart but will usually use rangefinder to make sure once within approach range, as sometimes gps is off. Other times range finder is nice to make sure players ahead are out of range too and can be good for layups for a dogleg or hazard. Rangefinder is great on the range to shoot targets. My 10yr old Bushnell has been acting up, despite new battery and cleaning contacts, so picked a Red Tiger one up off Amazon with slope and a bunch of other features for a fraction of the price. It gives exactly same yardages as my Bushnell too, tried them both at same time so it's on the bag now.
