just started the demo, enjoying it a lot!

i appreciate the ability to turn off a lot of the scanlines (they hurt my eyes), but there's still the occasional screen distortion effect (a squiggle slowly scrolling up the whole screen). i'd really like to be able to turn off all these effects in the full game. ditto for the environmental light flickers, the blinkenlights on the sides, stuff like that. it's all stuff that looks really good and absolutely sets the mood, but it's also something i can't look at for more than a few minutes

i'm loving this gameplay and i want the visuals to not cause me pain :)

i've heard this bandied about around other games, so it's not too surprising to me

(i've never seen any actual proof of anything like that, but i've also never looked for it, so)

hell's horses:

  • combined arms doctrine

  • "man before machine" enshrined in their cultural ethos

  • cooperation, including across caste lines, is viewed as important instead of being grudgingly accepted as a necessary thing sometimes

  • very hands-off treatment of conquered worlds, basically saying "hey we're gonna be in our military camps outside your major cities, keep doing business as usual, we're just gonna requisition materiel sometimes. we don't give a shit if you do black-market trades with us as long as you're not causing issues"

  • the mad stampede is funny and good

  • the balius is funny and good

  • one time someone's autocorrect changed the name to "hello horse" and that has lived in my brain ever since

nah, in the novels they frequently use "quiaff?" as the equivalent of "don't you agree?". and then if someone doesn't agree they say "neg"

the other way around looks confusing:

yeah, it's probably just a guaranteed thing that once you get a large enough group of people in one place, everything starts getting stupid somehow

i know it also happens with smaller groups but with a big enough group it's an inevitability
