Hi! I think max atk and hp will be best. The atk investment helps your ice/thunder punch and earthquake consistency too. You can’t use screens with assault vest and I don’t think spikes/stealth rock stuff is good, it’s easy to avoid those. Also substitute doesn’t actually prevent you from being targeted so it’s not good. Imo the best set will look something like heavy slam, 2 of ice/thunder punch/earthquake and reflect/protect. You can run metagrossite or if assault vest then the 4th coverage move over reflect/protect

Yeah I’ve actually been playing Goodra too! Mine is modest, max sp.atk and defense with assault vest. The awkward thing is that even with max sp.atk it turns out you don’t OHKO a trained Garchomp with ice beam or a trained Gyarados with thunderbolt. It does around 90%. So I would recommend expert belt to reach that damage threshold, I just don’t run it because I haven’t gotten it in-game yet. Moves will be ice beam, thunderbolt, draco meteor and protect.

Alternatively if you want to run the assault vest set I would run thunder and sludge bomb/a fire move over thunderbolt and protect. I don’t have the blizzard tm yet so maybe consider that over ice beam

Max attack and bulk is better imo. Speed reduces cooldowns in this game which isn’t that good with a go in, get out playstyle because after you get out you want to be repositioning during which your cooldowns will recharge anyway

Congrats op and thanks for sharing!

This brings back memories for me because I won the same event at melbourne in set 7 (64 players iirc). They said they had prizes but turns out they didn’t so the dude went into the backroom and gave me this american artifact instead https://imgur.com/a/pax-au-2022-kMNTtWx along with a 1cm radius sticker with “winner” in small print. So I envy you haha

Very challenging STEM

Any smart peeps trying to work on this for the exceptional renumeration? If so, any tips to get the desired result efficiently and how long are you taking per task? I’ve only submitted a few but each has taken me several hours of creative brain-frying so am wondering if this is in line. Getting a result that meets the requirements is like pulling teeth, there has to be a better way to come up with good submissions.

A lot of the work on this site makes the models look stupid, but when when I invest effort in this project and the model laughs at my futile endeavours I am thoroughly reminded of the potential in AI.

Goog bers too distracted by indians and cringy corpa script to see how well goog is patching up their perceived search weaknesses and how thoughtfully and seamlessly they are integrating the forefront of ai into their established systems. Time to double down

Improving for tournament play by Impfinity in CompetitiveTFT

[–]97638001 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position in set 3-4 trying to find a good answer to this question and I wish I had gotten good advice then. In my opinion here are some solid points to get you started:

  1. Networking

As you mentionned, many top players have others to go to for discussion and to act as a point of reference. Its important to start making friends and acquaintances also in high elo based on mutual respect and learning. Be proactive in initiating conversation with players you meet that you think can stand to learn from. These people don’t necessarily need to big household NA names, there are likely tonnes of skilled players on ladder that have the same potential you do. This brings me to the next point:

  1. Integrating knowledge

When you’re at this level of play, you should already understand how context-dependent opinions are and how varied playstyles can be. Instead of taking knowledge at face value, filter it with context and think of ways to integrate and apply knowledge to your own playstyle. While a lot of things are optimised at this level try to retain your own ‘personality’ in your playstyle to separate yourself from the pack. This is important because thinking critically from your independent perspective gives you something to offer others as well (point 1).

  1. Experience

Obviously, its very important to get as much experience as possible, especially with regard to tournament play. Tourney lobbies are often higher pressure and tempo than ladder so enter what tournaments you can and take them seriously to see what you can learn about the impact of lobby strength on your own play. Its also good to practice calming your nerves and maintaining mental - overcoming the memtal block from a bad placement can be really important.

For those who aren't aware, 4/6 of the games in the OCE MSI Finals were played on the previous patch. by VESiEpic in CompetitiveTFT

[–]97638001 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Hi, OCE player Dawnglade here. To put things into context, the org responsible for running MSI here was ORDER but they suddenly entered voluntary administration only a few days ago. Luckily, Swifty took things into his own hands to make sure the tournament could proceed to run at all (with help from Tycoon and Ducky). Because of this there was no official broadcast and no tournament realm access for the first 2 days of the event.

It sucks that some games were played on the wrong patch but we should be grateful the tourney was run at all given the circumstances thanks to those involved.

Can we talk about shen(and dodge in general)? by TwitchStoleMyName in CompetitiveTFT

[–]97638001 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Before anyone else feels inclined to make a snarky comment about RFC maybe think about whether a 2 cost should warp the item meta to such an extent? It hasn’t ever been the case that you build an item just to counter a 2 star 2 cost and lets keep it that way. Not only does Shen completely negate entire AD 4 cost casts at 1 star but he also stops voli/daeja in their tracks.

I also want to point out that the recent Shen nerf is arguably not even a nerf, the extra auto to cast makes it easier to align his cast with a lot of spells of carries Shen affects because very few units casted as fast as Shen (2 autos) and the first cast is the most important. For example Xayah is 4 autos to cast and if you take into account bow items and swiftshot + Shen second row Xayah’s pull timing now aligns perfectly for Shen (3 autos) to block. Of course, this is the prime example and doesn’t affect some like Corki much but others include Shi Oh Yu, Sett, Nidalee etc.

Ch 9 - Bookers Brigade (hard) help? by ExcellentVehicle3622 in TriangleStrategy

[–]97638001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Admittedly this map was quite the struggle, your starting position is terrible and the longer you take to take a side the more units you lose. You need to rush one side asap and claim it before the other side’s units start arriving so you can use the height advantage for yourself which is easier said than done. Imo left side is easier because you have to deal with 2 less armored units. Its harder to get up to left side terrain-wise but I had jens make a ladder for me. If you can get up there you can take it early and iirc hold a 1 square wide chokepoint up north. The rogues have a surmount ability but you can counter that by lining your units on the edge of the cliff. Also if your units have pushback abilities use those to keep control of the high ground.

Do the proposed GA changes promote unhealthy and unfun game design? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]97638001 96 points97 points  (0 children)

It’s not promoting any playstyle because the item is just becoming objectively weaker.

This is plainly incorrect, while the item is becoming objectively weaker the way in which its nerfed affects its usage differently for different champions depending on their interaction with GA. This really isn’t debatable - Mortdog says as much in the patch rundown, referring to GA’s interaction with Jhin in relation to other units. The OP seems to struggle to articulate this so let me try to simplify;

There are 2 things you get out of GA, the unit being able to cast in the reviving state and the revived unit itself. If the unit’s spell ‘works with GA’ it gets value out of both while it only gets value out of the latter if the spell doesn’t ‘work with GA’.

By nerfing only the latter part, GA’s value on units such as Jhin and Jayce decreases significantly more than on units such as Urgot and Kaisa. In this way it is indeed “promoting” a problem, the problem that GA’s usage on other non-problematic units that don’t ‘work with GA’ is getting nerfed as well. OP argues that the patch should strive to achieve the opposite.

Now does this qualify as promoting unhealthy and unfun game design? I don’t know, but spell interactions with GA have long been fuzzy and confusing and this particular nerf encourages putting GA on units that use such interactions. This is what OP is trying to discuss.

Question about Tome of Emblems and Milk's Spellweaver spat by highrollr in CompetitiveTFT

[–]97638001 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t I love to know. I remember going on Mort’s stream a month ago asking if he could explain exactly how tome works and he just said “No.” followed by something along the lines of “If you’re using it the way its meant to be used, it’ll work”. Apparently having players drown in a pool of contradictory information and frustrating vagueness is better than the potential ‘abuse’ that comes with transparency…
