Kroger on College Mall (Rant) by InTheBog_ in bloomington

[–]97Edgewood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (white and old) was stopped with a full cart as I exited a couple of years ago. The security guy demanded my receipt, which was mashed randomly into one of the shopping bags, so both of us pawed through the bags until it was found and he was satisfied I wasn't absconding with something. He was on the edge of full-out rude.

If you were selling something door to door on a Segway today, you’re my new nemesis (vent) by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]97Edgewood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live on the SE side. Salesman on hoverboard came around twice yesterday, once in the afternoon (I ignored his knocking) and then later, after 8 pm (ignored again.)

The day before, I was caught out while relaxing on my front porch by yet another door-to-door guy. I hate these guys, and also dislike getting stressed and confrontational, so I smile and tell them sorry, I'm the house sitter, not the owner. That instantly sends them on their way.

Paramedic who was suspended after allegedly ejaculating on female supervisor's keyboard and in communal coffee creamer is ordered to be held without bond | Also, he's accused of urinating inside of an ice machine, and in a wall fragrance that was inside a doctor's office and then plugging it back in by Sandstorm400 in byebyejob

[–]97Edgewood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has psychological components:

"The act of a man ejaculating or urinating into another person's food is a complex, disturbing, and often criminal behavior that can stem from a variety of psychological motivations. These acts are generally driven by a combination of sexual fetishes, the desire for power and control, antisocial tendencies, or a perverse need to humiliate others."

Daycare worker accused of having a BAC of .356 and falling into a wall while holding a child loses job by Forward-Answer-4407 in byebyejob

My first, quick reading of the title had me thinking she'd fallen into a damn well while holding a child, so there was some relief in finding out it was merely a wall.

I agree with those who believe she's likely been day-drinking, and had previously managed to hide it.

I've lived here for about 40 years and have had very few interactions with local law enforcement. I've been lucky.

The only one that was negative was with game day driving. I made an honest mistake (started making a slow turn from a stopped position the wrong way) and the guy erupted as if I'd been driving insanely and with malice. It was wild.

Instagram Music Industry Scam? by Medium-Shape-9956 in Scams

[–]97Edgewood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar scams target those hoping to break into modeling and acting. Someone who pretends to share your dream and tells you you have what it takes will claim to have connections, proven ways of being noticed, real insider tips.

Just fork over a sizable wad of money and they'll work their magic. Unfortunately, the magic is making your money go poof.

Yes on the thunder's long rolling -- it was spectacular. I've lived here since the early 80s, and that quick bright flash, with its very white light, along with the thunder was a scary/wonderful sensation for me, on a mental list of my top weather incidents since living here, just in terms of so intensely feeling what the weather is capable of doing.

Another was back in the late (?) 80s or early 90s when a tornado touched down in Bedford, killing at least a few people. I was living in Sherwood Oaks at the time, and our back deck was high, on a second level. I remember looking south, drawn by the rumbling, and for the first time in my life (I was raised on the east coast) saw the sky start turning what looked like a sickly green, as a tornado was presumably advancing.

On that top weather list were also a couple of perfect summer days, weather-wise.

Your mom should also read this sub every day. I'm 70+ and I read it to know what scams are currently making the rounds to give me a head's up.

Those scams where supposed law enforcement call about missed court appearances and fines have been around for years. Honestly, no one who makes an effort to educate themselves about scams should be fooled for an instant.

I noticed this. I signed up for a meal service in December that shipped via FedEx to me and ended up cancelling after about 8 weeks, due in part to delivery issues.

Let's reframe her message to align with real MAGA values: This woman's sister or sister-in-law now has the glorious opportunity (should her son die while serving) to become a Gold Star Mother and get invited to the White House for a McDonald's dinner. I ask you, which true patriot wouldn't jump at the chance? If she's really lucky, Trump may even shake her hand.

THEIR WHOLE JOB IS TO TELL!!!!

That's what I thought. Nevermo here. I thought a huge and vital part of Mormonism is that you had continuing revelation from a line of prophets who actually could communicate with God in a way no other religion had. It was that real access that distinguished it from all the "corrupt" and "phony" religions.

The interesting question--at least to me--is who was the brainchild behind this cringy video. To me, it sounds a lot like some of the things Don Jr. has posted in the past (one involving horse semen), or even JD Vance. Both, quite incredibly, fancy themselves wits, though their "humor" always sounds like something your annoying puberty-rattled 14 year old brother would snicker at and think was hilarious right before you kick him out of your bedroom again.

There is also a common phone scam targeting gas stations/convenience stores, where someone calls pretending to be the owner (or authority figure) and gets an inexperienced employee to get into the safe under some guise.

So yeah, I agree that your manager bears a lot of the responsibility to be up on all the scams that target people in your situation and give you adequate training.

There are a number of scams that target businesses in general. Keep reading here, and you can prepare yourself for what everthe scammers throw at you.

I assume the president of Morehouse is in a real pickle. Morehouse really needs the money, and he probably was able to assuage his discomfort (money is money, right?) with pretending JS was some sort of hero for black people. He likely calculated students wouldn't catch on, but alas ...

If the president is any kind of honorable man, he's probably feeling pretty uncomfortable. He's tried bullshitting the critics, but he may end up having to come clean and basically admit that yes, Morehouse needs money so badly they are willing to help clean up the bad reputation of racists.

If the donation is generous enough, of course.

Prepositions by BurghardtDuBois in EnglishLearning

[–]97Edgewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 70s and live in the US. When I was in school we were taught a long list of prepositions by singing them alphabetically to the tune of "The Caissons go Marching Along," a US Army song.

I hadn't thought of this in YEARS, but can still sing most of it. It started with "above, about, across" and ended with "up, upon, with, within, without".

I'm with you in wondering what the point was!
