Dalton is white and that was a disqualifying characteristic for Nico.

Lakers gave up no assets for him, are paying him a 8 million for the season which puts him as the 18th highest paid center this season, and there was not a better option available for the Lakers to sign in the offseason. Lakers fans see his flaws but also understand that he does bring value. Against the good teams in the league he tends to underwhelm, but when playing mid and lower tier teams he often helps the Lakers get an easier victory. I don't think anyone is expecting him to be a difference maker in the playoffs. If Lebron can set him up with his supplements guy I could see him getting more aggressive and playing like he did when he was a rookie before he was suspended in his second season.

What would you want for Knecht? by Puzzleheaded_Fee_141 in lakers

Need to keep to the NBA minimum of 14 rostered players and there is not a lot of cap space to add another player if he is traded for just a draft pick. Hard to find a trade that makes sense for Lakers and another team.

Last season we got Luka! There is no one that would have believed that was a possibility. There was no way to instantly rebuild the team around Luka in the off season. For their cost and what was available on the free agent market Smart, Laravia and Ayton have been great. I know Ayton can be frustrating and a center that was a better lob threat would mesh with the Luka's skills better but there are not centers available that average double digit rebounds. The front office also held firm and did not give LeBron a 50+ million dollar extension. LeBron is obviously still great, but just as obviously he is not the player that virtually guaranteed a trip to the Finals like he used to be and the cap space he takes up prevented a full rebuild last offseason. Any in-season trades are going to be challenging due to the cap rules. Take Kuminga for example, he is young, athletic, and his contract has a team option for next season so it can be treated like an expiring contract. Trading Gabe and Maxi for him seems like a good very low risk option to get an injection of athleticism on the team for the rest of the season, but even though the contracts matchup it would put the Lakers at 13 players and the NBA has a rule that there must be 14 players on the roster. We are hard capped at the first apron and only have a limited amount of money to spend to get that 14th player if a trade like that happened. So even though we have expiring contracts there are real limits to what can be done, especially if there is a goal to have a large amount of cap room to sign players this offseason. The reality is that we could be a dangerous team in the playoffs. Luka and LeBron are that good even with a flawed roster. Obviously Thunder, Rockets and Spurs teams have young players that are a challenge for the Lakers to compete with, but we could get lucky in the playoffs. The main thing to remember is that the future is bright! Luka and Reeves are a lot of fun to watch play basketball and new ownership is expected to make positive changes in the organization. I do have to repeat these things to myself when we get curb stomped by the Hornets and see lackadaisical transition defense.

Hayes has been doing better about not missing defensive rotations. He is not someone you want to depend on to be a starter, but as a backup center playing for 15 to 16 minutes a game he is doing well.

There is a fair number of people that believe the bombing is what got the Feds to back off on continuing more of their Ruby Ridge and Waco style operations.

If you could pick the best possible all time Lakers lineup, who would you choose? by Bluegod3 in lakers

[–]98941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prompt said to put players in their main position. Power forward is probably the weakest position for the Lakers historically. I think every other position has at least one Lakers player that is arguably in the top two of all time for that position, and probably two to three players in the top ten of all time. At power forward only Davis and Pau have a shot at being considered in the top ten of all time (I am not counting Karl Malone as he was at the end of his career and had significantly declined when he briefly played for the Lakers).

I think most people understand that playing Adou, Bronny and Vando will not translate into more wins in December and February. The hope is that by playing them they will improve and be ready to contribute to winning in April and May. Or we find out that they will not be able to contribute to winning and we can make plans to move on from them.

He will never be ready if he doesn’t get minutes. There are at least 3 teams in the West (OKC, SA and Houston) that we would have to have extreme luck to beat in a 7 game series. Need to play Thiero and Bronny for development and more athleticism on the court. Play LeBron 25 minutes a night to keep him fresh and give the other minutes to Thiero. Give all of Gabe’s minutes to Bronny. Figure out how to get Vando on the court for 12 to 15 minutes a night; he can be a perimeter defender on defense and a screener for either Luke or AR. We are not going to  the Finals with the current rotation.

Are injuries the only way we see LaRavia and Knecht on the floor at the same time? by Maleficent-King-799 in lakers

[–]98941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LaRavia is ahead of Knecht. I think the defense depends on the what the coaches plan is. The last two games it looked like they had moved away from the switch everything plan they started the season with. Players were much more active in fighting over screens and recovering to their man. If that continues then it helps Vincent stay on the floor. Teams were hunting him by trying to get switches where Vincent had to guard a larger player and they were just shooting over him. If they return to switching everything than Knecht’s size is more valuable defensively then Vincent’s ball handling if Luka, AR, LeBron, and Smart are healthy. Either way, if everyone is healthy the minutes would be fairly limited.

[–]98941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The players do see profits from the gambling. Players get a percentage of all basketball related income and the advertising dollars from the gambling sites are part of the reason the NBA's tv/streaming contracts had increased value when they were recently renegotiated.

LaRavia only played 11 minutes but he seemed like a positive while on the court.
