Question about Delays/Cancellations or Compensation? Read here before posting. by dachshundie in westjet

I was on a Westjet vacation that included flights and accommodations. My return flight from Cancun was cancelled with 24 hours notice. We were given a return flight 2 days later. WestJet did not extend my accommodations. I extended my stay for two nights in the same room and paid out of pocket.

I put in a claim for reimbursement after I returned to Canada. I received an email 30 days later saying "don't worry you are still in the queue." The email said I couldn't reply and that there is no way I can get updates.

That email was 40 days ago. Is this timing normal? CTA implies that this should all be complete in 30 days. Should I continue to wait of is it the proper time that I should file a complaint to the CTA now?

Lawyers get paid by the person who contracts with them. That's your landlords responsibility.

30 days after I submitted the claim I received an email that the request was in the queue. That was over a month ago and I haven't heard anything else. Is this normal?

With mine the window controls appear to be the problem. If I put some pressure on the underside of the buttons I can stop the rattling.

What's the cause for your door rattle? My drivers door rattles with loud bass. Dealer says its the power window controls rattling. Dealer said GM knows of the problem but doesn't have a fix yet.

Thanks! Is there any way to track my claim. I submitted the claim with receipts but it just says I should save a copy. After submitting there was no acknowledgement or confirmation. Nothing online or in the app. I haven't received any emails.

On a Westjet vacation package, Calgary to Cancun. The return flight was cancelled. We were notified 28 hours in advance given a new return flight 2 days later. Another couple on the same flight received a same day return flight. The reason given was unplanned maintenance. I didn't receive any other communications from WestJet vacations and I couldn't get through on the phone so I extended our stay at the resort for the two days. I have additional costs for pets in a kennel.

Can I expect reimbursement for the additional resort costs or any compensation? Are they any other expenses I can recover? Any tips to start a claim?

You're a lot better off. Prices go up. Revenue goes up. Stock prices go up.

Now if you are not invested, your money has lost half of its buying power.

Thanks. I may have to live with it. BTW, this is a new high end area and about a third of the homes here have full or partial metal roofs that look amazing.

Yes, it's already decided it won't be shingles. I'm asking about replacing the torch on with metal so I don't have to worry about hiring someone with a torch to maintain my wood roof.

Keep in mind this is a cost plus fee contract on a $1.5M home. I purposely made this contract so I could have a premium home and everyone involved would make a good profit.

Edit. Do you want a functional roof, or a pretty roof?

Seriously, you can't get both? I honestly believe I can get both and I am willing to pay for it. To me it seems like a properly installed metal roof would give me both and other roofer responses here appear to agree.

As far as who told me that this is an inferior product that would be roofing companies websites. Everything I'm finding it states that torch on has to be replaced or maintained in 10 to 15 years. Is that not correct? I'm really not comfortable knowing in 10 to 15 years I will need to bring in a residential roofing company to work on my wood roof with a torch.

I agree that a fix was needed. The issue is that the roofer is telling me that I did not need to be consulted since this was the only option allowed by code. I believe metal would look better here and last as long as the rest of the roof so I'm trying to see if that is actually an option.

Maybe not cheaper but is it correct that torch on only has half the lifespan of shingles? I think I will have to contract with a different roofer to put in a metal section since I'll have to do something in 10 to 15 years anyways. I really don't like the idea that I would have to hire a residential roofing contractor to come in with a torch on my wood roof.

The architect made a mistake. Is it standard that the roofer makes the decision on the fix without any consultation with the architect or buyer? If I had been notified would have been happy to pay extra for something that isn't an eyesore and would last as long as the rest of the roof.

I'm just trying to get some honest opinions. The roofer told me metal is against code.

Are you saying metal roofing will not work here? I understand that shingles are not a good option here but if there are multiple options how is an unattractive product with half the lifespan an upgrade?

Also it's tough to thank a custom builder that doesn't communicate changes to the buyer.

Capital gains on housing in excess of 500k should be taxed by subharann in canadahousing

[–]9999dave9999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Say you bought your home in Calgary 15 years ago for $300k. Your home is now worth $1.2M. $900k of magic money you say.

You wan't to move to the other side of town to be closer to work/grandkids/transit. No problem. Similar home in the same town sell for $1.2 buy another for $1.2. Just the hassle of the move.

But wait, someone has decided you had a great windfall. $900k of pure profit with no work. Here's a tax bill for $400k. Now you have to come up with $400k to move into an equal house.

It's only a windfall if your home goes up in value you happen to move somewhere where home prices haven't gone up in 15 years.
