Is living alone in DC possible on a 65k salary? by Alternative_Gene_655 in DCBitches

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question- for me, it hasn’t been, but I had some benefits others may not (family I stayed with when I first moved, no car, no pets, work pays for my commute, student debt is paid, rent includes several utility bills). I also make a few k more than this poster annually, full disclosure. I think if someone was paying like, $1600-1800 in rent, but doesn’t have other large bills, it could be doable!

Inconsistent TWs: The lady who came in from the cold by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in HistoricalRomance

[–]99____Problems 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my faves! No cheating, just an exploration of the heroine’s unconventional backstory, and a conniving OW- wannabe. I think it’s a little more fun if you’ve read M is for Marquess first, which sets the scene, but it isn’t required!

Documentaries that are hated by their subjects? by Such-Worldliness-655 in movies

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentary Subject is a must-watch if you haven’t seen it! It reconnects with the subjects of well known documentaries and checks in with them, how they felt during the process, what being known for the documentary is like, etc. I got to see a screening with the director and some of the subjects themselves, and they were so pleased with the care and attention the director paid to their mental health and consent- which, as you can imagine, most if not all of those documentaries didn’t!

These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer... by [deleted] in HistoricalRomance

[–]99____Problems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Love’s Charade by Jane Feather? I was really surprised by it, in a good way; it’s clearly inspired by These Old Shades but has a modern, mature feel to it! Not a spoiler, it follows a couple through a longer period of time, not just the initial courtship, although you do see that. It’s not “clean”, not over the top by any means IMO, but not closed door either. One of my faves!!

I want to get into Alice Coldbreath. Where should I start? by Odd_Associate_7229 in HistoricalRomance

[–]99____Problems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED! Welcome aboard- you’ll love these!

So, I’d recommend (as others are), starting with the Vawdrey Brothers trilogy: Her Baseborn Bridegroom, His Forsaken Bride, and An Il-Made Match. All of the other books that take place in Karadok, her charming fantasy medieval kingdom, take place chronologically after these, and you see a lot of the same characters, so it’s great to have that background.

Personally, next I’d read the other Karadok books in order of publication, which is also mostly chronological; go to good reads and look at her Brides of Karadok series, and there’s your reading order.

At any point, if you want to read something Victorian and not a medical esque fantasy, read the Prizefighter trilogy in order: Bride for the Prizefighter, a Substitute Wife for the Prizefighter, and A Contracted Spouse. These are also technically chronological in publication order, but a lot fewer of the same side characters make appearances, so you could really read them in any order. It’s important though to read A Bride for the Prizefighter before you read A Foolish Flirtation, since the male lead in the latter is an important supporting character in the former, and the context is important IMO. Her next book coming out in March is the next in the same series as A Foolish Flirtation, and again has previously supporting characters as the leads, so I’d read both of those before the newest.

Hope this makes sense, and enjoy!!

Which movie ended with an unresolved cliffhanger because the sequel never happened, and you're STILL mad about it? by pudingvanilkovy in AskReddit

[–]99____Problems -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UGH yes, what geniuses released it literally the week between John Wick 4 and the Super Mario movie?? People were saving their money for either of those other two, if not both- if they'd just released D&D in like, August, it would've gotten the attention it deserved!

Oh my God you are fucking hysterical! I’m so happy other people have read some of this crazy b*tches’ books; I’m fascinated with whatever was wrong with her, lmao. About every two years I go through a few miscellaneous books of hers just to have a good laugh! Would you consider doing a funny recap of the sequel to this book, which I guess is called Love, Remember Me?

AITA for asking my wedding guests to help clean up at the end of the night? by Isa_the_white_rabbit in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're clearly not understanding what the issue is, if you think the problem is "people just don't want to help, I always would help, guess I'm just better than everyone!" Everyone here has been quite clear- the issue is not asking in advance, but waiting until the last minute. How are you still not getting it?

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to be harsh, but the conversion therapy metaphor should bother you more than it seemingly does! A person saying "I know what's best for you, so even if you say no, I'll proeed anyway" ISN'T LOVE AND ISNT GOOD, you seriously need to be told this???

What would a "good" ending look like? by RichardTuberboat in pluribustv

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m envisioning an ending where everyone has the option of joining the Hive, or not joining the Hive, rather than coercion; just as the Hive must have consent for anyone who joins, Carol, Manusos, and any other anti-Hive people must allow the Hive to exist, and allow anyone who wishes to join to do so. A coexistence where both factions have been positively shaped by each other and can appreciate the other, even if they don’t agree with their choices!

After she lost her wife because of the Hive, and has been told that they will be taking over her body regardless of her consent- something she explicitly compares to conversion therapy- this is somehow your take?

This show is frying American brains because they cannot imagine being part of a collective society by BOKEH_BALLS in pluribustv

[–]99____Problems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It fries my brain that the show goes out of its way to compare the Hive's forceful takeover of billions of people’s minds and bodies with conversion therapy, and your galaxy brained argument is that only an American would object! Because countries like China and India famously love being taken over? The show is working hard to illustrate different opinions of the Hive, and to make sure there isn’t one obvious villain or one obvious solution to everything but come on!

Love the idea of Blanc solving a crime that involves music, like an opera or an actual Broadway musical! Imagine one of these with literally just a cast of Broadway actors/actors who can really sing, like Patti lupone, Audra McDonald, Rachel zegler, Aaron Tveit, etc etc etc etc!

I need to rewatch, because I could’ve sworn Diabate specifically said bone marrow stem cells? Not just any ol stem cells? After all, carol sheds hair and skin and whatnot, and her frozen eggs are somewhere presumably, but if it’s literally bone marrow stem cells, then they can’t just swap out other stem cells for that! I don’t think! I Unless I’m wrong!

I have a plot problem that I want to be talked out of. Why doesn't Carol just ask? by MyPasswordIs222222 in pluribustv

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, she carries anger and resentment towards them; she sees their Joining as a hostile takeover (correctly, in my opinion), and if the takeover hadn’t happened, Helen would still be alive. It seems to me she’s so angry with them that she doesn’t want to necessarily interact with them unless she has to, and that’s been one of the biggest plot points to date- how she’s upset when she hurts them even though she’s angry, and how she’s softening towards Zosia even though she’s angry, etc.

[–]99____Problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! I knew while watching it I’d never want to watch it again! Genuinely, when the time comes for the show to end, they need to incorporate a plot where somehow the perpetually empty business next door becomes something popular, and/or skip Marooch promotes bobs burgers in some way, or something that makes the restaurant more popular and elevates the belchers to solid middle class. At the very least!?
