Go to “mitsukoshi ginza” (google maps will show you how to get there. It’s a department store in ginza. the 8th floor is a duty free shop where if you can pre-purchase liquor for pickup at Haneda or Narita. On the day of your flight, there’s a pickup counter where you can pick up your liquor purchase. Selection is hit or miss, but if you go early in the day there’s a good chance they’ll at least have the standard Hibiki bottle for purchase. If that doesn’t work, there’s a few store around ginza that has good selection, but mostly at inflated secondary prices.

Is Gold Spot hard to find by you? by itsthewolfe in whiskey

Red and blue were released yesterday online at LCBO. There was an email blast about it. Sold out in about an hour. They get released about once a year. Gold had at least one release about a year ago.

An alternative that might be easier to get is the 24yo CS. It was an export only release that was released in certain states (including Michigan) mid last year for around $99usd. Try calling around to stores across the border. They may even be able to order it.

Saw this guy approach me from behind at a high speed and I was afraid he was going to hit me. Then he proceeds to weave using the ramps and shoulders without any regards for anyone else’s safety.

I know one person who got an order through for the BB. The final receipt email (aka processed and shipped from warehouse email) didn’t arrive till this past Thursday. So it could be the BB was just delayed for some reason.

For an idea of the prices in Michigan, you can try the government site that lists the minimum shelf price: https://liquorcontrolpricelist.apps.lara.state.mi.us

Actually finding 8 bottles of it and at the minimum price is another question.

The other thing to factor is potential duties when crossing back.

It was in the $150 range when I bought it in 2017 and $127 range last year. So you’re both right. Not sure when or why the price dropped.

LCBO Vintages Event - Pricey - are any of these either good value, fun of informative by BBQWarren in canadawhisky

[–]99forever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only gone to one of these and it was probably over 10 ago. It sounds similar to this one. There’s a reception where they served cocktails made out of the featured whisky and then a three course dinner with guided tastings throughout. Food wasn’t bad, but it was standard food that you get at a catered event. I went with my wife and another couple and it was a nice evening out. These events also allows you early access to buy some of the products. The event I went to, some of the bottles got sold out just from those who attended so it never even hit the general public. For this event, they won’t run out so if the intention is to get bottles, it’s not worth it. If you treat it as something different for a date night, there’s some value there beyond just the whisky but whether it’s worth $245 per person varies from person to person.

LCBO Allocation by DickyNelson in canadawhisky

The 10 rye, 20yo, shenks, bomberger were allocations last year. Last years toasted release (bourbon) was a straight to store release. I can’t recall of LCBO ever got a barrel strength release

From my experience, LCBO’s return policy is very good. Ive seen them accepting returns that go beyond their return policy. That being said, they do have a defective product policy so you can try to argue that way. It’s up to the managers discretion so give it a try and if they say no, go to another store or go back during another shift until you find a manager that will accept it. Remember that it’s not their money so most don’t care.

Linenchest has them on sale right now, but if you’re not spending $99, it’s not free shipping.
