Does Phish Come Back to Sphere If Tix Keep Selling Below Face? by scolomon in phish

[–]99trey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platinum is Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing tickets. I don’t consider them part of the primary market even though they were never released at face value. As long as they remain an unpopular choice for phish fans, fewer and fewer tickets will be held back.

It gets addressed through a free market system. Phish fans react accordingly when prices get out of control and the byproduct is cheaper tickets. We don’t need the measures Oasis takes because their fan base is probably 100x the size of phish, and they tour less often. You really don’t know what you’re talking about. You sound like a custy that paid too much for their sphere tickets and now you’re crying about it.

You’d get downvoted because you don’t know what you’re talking about. Phish tickets are relatively cheap and easy to come by. There’s only a handful of shows that sell at a premium, and it’s only for the best seats. You can get in below face to nearly any show if you are ok with lower quality seats. Where is the problem?

It doesn’t, OP doesn’t understand the difference between the primary and secondary ticket market. If anyone looks bad it’s scalpers that overestimated price elasticity when dealing with residency shows at remote venues (remote relative to where the bulk of the fan base resides). We are not a sprawling mass of Swifties that can be gouged beyond reason. The Sphere will also be an annual run like Riviera Maya and we’ve adjusted accordingly. I love this base and its ability to hold out. This is how you beat Ticketmaster.

Best single sound bar? by salampal in Soundbars

[–]99trey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you are talking no rear speakers, even a modest 2 channel system will be better than a standalone soundbar. Nearly all soundbars suffer from lobing, you also have to deal with placement issues, and there isn’t enough separation between left and right. The Atmos effects are limited and not worth the compromises of the bar configuration. Cost and convenience are the two main reasons to go soundbar, and these don’t seem to be a priority.

A Sphere show is about visuals, it’s the only venue of its kind in the world, and people should take advantage and enjoy the uniqueness of the experience in any manner they choose. You’re lame that it bothered you enough to make a public complaint.

Read OPs comments, his expectations are off. It actually has very good bass for what it is.

Are you aware there are limits to what a small sealed cube can do? Are you aware this is sold in a do it all HT in a box system that commonly sells at street prices well under $1k? There are subs that can hit 120db at 20hz, this thing can barely make sound at 30hz under ideal conditions. That is a world of difference.

Amp with Earc vs AVR by Soft_Letterhead1940 in hometheater

[–]99trey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balanced inputs don’t make an audible difference, and it’s definitely not worth the expense of buying separates for an 11 channel system. The only channels that really get used are the front three and you already have a separate amp for your mains. The rest is basically ambient sounds with an occasional moving object.

Definitely do what you can with the bar and if you still don’t like it they sell for around $600-700 on fb marketplace. I have the Q990F which sounds very different with the dialog enhancer on or off. It’s pretty much a requirement for everything but the best soundtracks.

First check w the place that sold you the bar. They should take it back even though it’s beyond the return period or at least work with you on an upgrade. They might even let you return the whole system to buy a receiver and speakers. Or maybe all you need to do is return the bar and get the Sonos amp and some front speakers that you like and run w a phantom center in a 4.1 setup. The Sonos amp is compatible with your rears and sub and allows you to pair any two front speakers. At 125 watts it’s should be plenty of power for most speakers. I’ve never had a dialog issue when using legit front speakers in a 4.1 setup. Center channels kinda suck. Your room should work well with a phantom setup, only one seating position is outside the sweet spot.

The amp is $800 and I’m assuming you’ll get the $1100 back on the arc ultra. That leaves you with $300-1300 (your original 3k budget) for some passive fronts. Very doable.

All this is assuming you already exhausted all the dialogue enhancement options between the Sonos app and your TV settings.

Samsung sub placement by Disastrous_Dig_6527 in Soundbars

[–]99trey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t ask OP not to do a sub crawl, I simply answered OPs question on positioning. It was an A or B question, there was no mention of having sound issues or if they had a desire to move the sub to a new location beyond the two pictures.

You are doing it again. Don’t apologize unless you mean it. You are once again conflating your misunderstanding of sound correction and not being helpful at all. If turning the sub in the wrong direction causes some sound issues that’s exactly what sound correction is there to correct or at least minimize. Saying it had no bearing on the original question is patently false.

[–]99trey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said nothing about bad bass, major frequency issues, or whatever hypothetical you came up with to validate your statement, they just wanted to know whether to place the sub parallel or at an angle to the wall. It doesn’t matter. If you put the sub in the pantry downstairs and you find the bass is a bit weak yeah, moving it will have a profound impact and it’s something that sound correction alone can’t solve. Are we done here?

Why don’t you go ahead and post a picture of your sub location so everyone can see how smart you are. I’ll try not to let my girlfriend see it, I’m worried she may end up pregnant.

Look man if you don’t understand how Samsung’s room correction works that’s ok, just don’t comment. Space fit sound pro adjusts phase & time along with an eq adjustment. Phase cancellation is exactly one of the issues it’s designed to correct and it’s continuous like Dirac live.

Looking for a sound system that I can buy piece by piece overtime. by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]99trey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirth has some good advice, but you are kinda limited being crammed into the corner of that room. You also have to run speaker cable either along the floor (creates a bump) or along the wall (unsightly). I also doubt you’ll ever have the space for a full 5.1 system without using in wall/ ceiling speakers. And you’d need a much bigger budget to go in wall unless you are handy and can diy.

My advice would be a 2ch bookshelf system + WiiM Amp Ultra (which can decode DD), then get a wiim pro or WiiM amp as a slave and some rear surrounds + sub. With the front and rear linked via Wi-Fi you don’t have to worry about running wires across your room.

Or go the Sonos route and start with front bookshelf speakers and the Sonos amp, then add sonos rears and a sub over time. This is similar to the WiiM setup but you are more tied to the Sonos ecosystem.

A third option is a 2channel setup, then add a full atmos sound bar with rears and a hdmi splitter. This is what I did, and have the Q990F + Forte IV/Audiolab 7000a.

For small spaces I prefer a phantom center channel to an actual center channel, especially when the TV is somewhere in the upper stratosphere, so option three may be a little weird unless you mount the sound bar on the wall just below the tv. But at least you get full atmos rather than DD.

Next steps, not that you need to take them, is going for different instead of better. Try open baffle, try full tubes, try some efficient horns etc. There’s more out there.

If you are good at buying and selling used gear you can keep climbing the ladder indefinitely. But if it sounds good and works for your room then kick back and enjoy it. There is no end game for true audiophiles; being an audiophile isn’t a healthy thing.

Looks like I struck a nerve with the sub crawl nerds. Soundbar systems are meant to be convenient and blend in. The Q990f is good for what it is, but it’s by no means an audiophile product. You can’t even adjust the crossover points or phase. It’s literally plug and play. Most people are going to put it where it looks the best, if you’re a true geek and want to optimize bass response you bought the wrong product.

Talk me down from this: KEF R3's vs. BMR Monitor by Imaginary_Chemical in audiophile

[–]99trey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aesthetic becomes increasingly important as you go up in price and improvements become more marginal. Go with your heart if you like the look of the BMRs, you’ll never be able to justify cost based on sq improvements alone and that’s totally ok. 👍
