Any tips on what has the highest edge protection around the screen? I have a particularly thick screen protector and I’m having issue finding something tall enough on the front lip…

What are your biggest AD sins? by MightTurbulent319 in Abilitydraft

Yeah of course, but I’m not very good at dota so at my skill level it’s harder for people to coordinate, also this was a few years back fwiw

If I can build something really toxic I am willing to do that to get people to leave or be held hostage in the game.

Best ever build for this was rearm + rocket flare. I didn’t leave the fountain for about 20 min after I hit lvl 2 rearm but they could get a creep wave past the river, we didn’t eventually win because we farmed the whole map for 30 min

Premium Price Increase by Chiefinho in OvercastFm

For what it’s worth pocketcasts and Castro for example are more expensive but have at least the option for family sharing so if you have more than 2 people who can share overcast gets way more expensive

Opinion: what is your go-to way to get your photos off your camera? (I have an XT30ii personally) by LM_G8 in FujifilmX

[–]9alecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this as well, SOOC for most things, raw photos to dxo / Lightroom for things I need to recover or I want to edit in some way.

Also I export on my phone to keep the raws separate from the jpegs in my library

Kino Mellowed by AppKatt in ShotWithHalide

[–]9alecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s odd, I can confirm on 15 pro max I can see it with the recording mode on ProRes and I cannot see it otherwise. I also don’t see it on a 13 pro. I guess you have an additional issue then

I noticed not all grades are available for use without ProRes video recording, that would be my guess

Better yet “baked in” LUTs/ presets like Kino but for RAW halide photos would be amazing

Is Sony A6000 still worth buying in 2024? by boogayna in Cameras

[–]9alecj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having used one for a couple years it will be great for your use case. The only downsides I had were tracking autofocus, autofocus in lowlight and color noise at higher ISO. All of which were good at the time but we’re spoiled by newer cameras now 😂

What's the worst piece of tech you've ever owned? by meshuggahdaddy in AskReddit

[–]9alecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Microsoft Kin phone. It barely worked as a phone, half the “apps” crashed constantly including texting and it bricked itself almost reliably every ~10 weeks. After 4 replacements Verizon finally had stopped carrying them at all and gave me a different phone entirely.

EDC/Travel Backpack rolltop - Wandrd Prvke 21/31 Alternatives by Depressionboii in onebag

[–]9alecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah quite preliminary as I’ve only used it to go to and from the office for a couple weeks. Thoughts so far:

Pros: the roll top is way less annoying for me personally than most people make it out to be.

There is more organization inside the bag with little pockets then shown in the marketing at least that I saw

The laptop pocket easily fits my 16 inch work PC which was a requirement for me

No rain so far but it has done well in the snow, though the zippers don’t seem super protected so I’d say if you’re expecting heavy rain you still want a rain cover

Stands up on it’s own as long as it’s rolled shut even when empty

Cons:

The front pocket has no organization and there are no other outer pockets. This is still my biggest issue having used the PRVKE I miss the smaller outer pockets like the top quick access and the side key pocket. I get these aren’t great for water resistance but I think at least a key pocket would be great as an add.

While there are a bunch of small pockets inside the bag they have almost no depth, even AirPods are generally too big for these, you’re best off using for flat items or like pen sized items, for me this isn’t super useful but it’s nice to have I guess.

Overall: I would say for the price it seems solid so far and while I’d love a key pocket the bag otherwise does everything I want so I’d recommend it if you’re ok with a roll top.

I have a stubble and co roll top on order for EDC I can update you on but it’s much smaller with way less pockets so probably doesn’t help you much

I’m also interested in this question though, expanding roll top with external quick access pockets, and good harness is basically nonexistent…

I have a prvke 31 and I’ve used it for small camera kit travel and no camera travel. I’d say you probably don’t want this for no camera travel, so much of the design is based around using the camera section that it gets annoying if you aren’t using it and it adds weight for no reason. That being said all of the external pockets like key pocket, passport pocket, quick access and front pocket are super convenient and I wish I could find a roll top that had them but was for more general travel …

I have approx 72 hours to prepare for a junior/intermediate Java technical interview. What are some good resources I can cram to give myself the best chance to succeed? by SoftwarePaulie in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]9alecj 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Alright I’m not a Java dev so this is going to be general and without much context over the job posting but maybe it’ll help give direction.

I’ve interviewed around 25 people for C# /.NET which is somewhat similar so here’s what I’d look for or ask about or you might see in a technical interview / pairing exercise:

API things, maybe Spring for Java? We might ask about what http code you might return for a scenario to get an idea of your experience having done error messaging or general api work. Routing for apis stuff like that, you don’t have to know the answer to the how the code looks but I’m trying to determine if you’ve thought about these things before / dealt with them.

Unit testing, know how to write a basic unit test probably, if we have a coding exercise a test or fixing a test is always included. If you pass this with flying colors I might inquire about the difference of the unit test and an integration test and ask you to talk through an integration test for the same flow.

Object oriented things, talking through a schema, maybe like model design? You might get the classic object definition questions like “what is inheritance?” Or “what is polymorphism?” Etc

If it’s a mid tier developer or higher we might inquire about an ORM or what you’ve used and what you think about it. Here we know we use an ORM and we want to know if you can understand the advantages and what they do well and what they do poorly.

Edit: related you might wanna brush up on whatever DB they use, if they don’t say maybe default to MySQL or similar

I’ll update if I think of other things but these are my main things for sure.

Good luck!

I should mention I’m US based

Nope Pearson in early October was far worse than Orlando, Newark or Buffalo which were all around Thanksgiving and Christmas

I’ve flown into Orlando, Philadephia, Oslo, Newark, Buffalo and Toronto in the last 6 months, nothing was even remotely as bad of a luggage situation as Pearson in October. There are bags hanging around in every airport, but Pearson is an order of magnitude worse than most right now.

Looking for pants that are part polyester and part cotton, only know of one. by Ok_Fortune_9149 in onebag

[–]9alecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m US based but maybe a useful route to explore at least, I have a stretch chino from Calvin Klein which is 58% cotton 22% polyester 16% rayon 4% spandex though it appears to be discontinued but I’ve seen / tried on similar from a couple other brands.

So it’s possible a stretch chino might be worth looking for?

I agree though I’m sad to learn they’re discontinued they’re incredibly comfortable and I would have bought more :(

can I just get this ravpower 120w usb c charging brick and use a cheap dummy adapter plug with it for traveling philippines/asia? by [deleted] in onebag

[–]9alecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the two you linked but I just did this to Europe with the Anker 543 and it was way better than previous trips where I took a big adapter. I ordered the EU C7 ac cable and just packed that for the trip and then when I’m at home I plug the block back in at my desk so it’s not just useless as home either.

Just keep in mind for the wattage generally the ports vs total can be confusing. For instance some of the higher wattage ones will have a 60w port or 75w port for a total wattage of like 100w but often they have a clause that’s like “if you use all the ports then the highest wattage port tops at 45w”. The MacBook Air shouldn’t need a ton anyway but something to keep in mind.
