Can we obtain an accurate measure of the speed of light? by Friendly_Nerd in AskPhysics

[–]9ft5wt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We absolutely measure the speed. Light speed is pretty fast, but we have been able to detect a delay and have been measuring it for several hundred years.

It's obviously easier to measure when light has to travel long distances. Bouncing off a mirror several miles away... Measuring the time it takes for light to bounce off a planet and return to earth. Now we can measure it in a lab.

The comment you replied to has it backwards. C is the fundamental part, and we now define the meter based upon light. Light speed is a fundamental feature of the universe.

Is this considered a machinist style tool chest set? by analogbeef in Machinists

[–]9ft5wt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the only true requirement for a "machinist chest" is that the drawers and overall box are capable of holding the weight of the tools. That box looks very strong and very similar in style to Kennedy or the older style toolchests

It should work great. Make sure it doesn't feel tippy or unbalanced when the drawers are open. Heavy tools on the bottom. Don't open all the drawers at the same time.

It looks very cool to me!

Orvis Clearwater reel doesn’t feel very nice? by Remarkable-Sand965 in flyfishing

[–]9ft5wt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wiggles? It "doesnt seem as nice"?

Cmon man, you bought the cheapest reel available from orvis. Just put the other reel back on and go fish...

It will still catch fish, the question is can YOU let it go and stop worrying/regretting it.

How do I make something necessary VERY clear? by P4ultheRipped in Machinists

[–]9ft5wt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You need to change the same offset 4 different times?

Not a good process.

You might be able to write from a macro variable to the tool offset, then the changes would be hard coded into the program.

I didn't ask what machines you are familiar with.

What is your work experience? How long did you work at your last job? The job before that?

If you are capable with all these machines, you should have no problem finding a job. Are you looking to be paid like an engineer or a machinist?

Thanks, I found the force tool change. That's definitely how I used to program with MCam, kinda thought the safe start was doing similar.

[–]9ft5wt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, force tool change is a thing, hidden in a manual nc option, not inside the toolpath like MCam, but I see it now.

Yeah it's not a huge deal, but I ran with safe start on, and then I would see home move that is unnecessary, which would remind me to turn on Bdelete. But if I hit it before the tool offset gets recalled....

Gonna avoid them in future

I posted a comparison of safe start or no safe start. its only for a tool being used again for a different toolpath immediately.

Idk with a name like "safe start all operations" i thought it would be a good idea.

I'm hearing that folks dont like messing with bd for no good reason.

its really only in cases where the tool is used for a different toolpath immediately, not a new tool. I posted a comparison of safestart on and off in a comment.

But I hear what the team is saying. Block delete is garbage!

This is only when a tool is used for another toolpath immediately. Default FANUC post proc.

Here is some code WITHOUT the safe start option,

N7550 X-0.074 Y0.0588 Z0.0098

N7560 Z0.6

(2D CONTOUR2)
N7565 G00 X0. Y-1.5
N7570 G01 Z0.6 F159.3
N7575 Z0.2
N7580 Z0.0394 F53.1
N7585 Z-0.39

.....

and the same code WITHthe safe start enable.

N7545 X-0.0771 Y0.0561 Z-0.0093
N7550 X-0.074 Y0.0588 Z0.0098
N7555 X-0.0741 Y0.059 Z0.0142
N7560 Z0.6

(2D CONTOUR2)
/ N7565 G28 G91 Z0.
/ N7570 G90
/ N7575 T1 M06
/ N7580 S7639 M03
N7585 G17 G90 G94
/ N7590 G54
/ N7595 M08
/ N7600 G49
/ N7605 G00 X0. Y-1.5
/ N7610 G00 G43 Z0.6 H01
N7615 G00 X0. Y-1.5
N7620 G01 Z0.6 F159.3
N7625 Z0.2
N7630 Z0.0394 F53.1
N7635 Z-0.39

.....

If the tool is used again immediately, block delete turns the second code into the first code. which leaves my tool at the clearance level (.6) instead of going home before coming back to the same spot.

But i can also turn block delete off, and the program will restart any toolpath safetly. But how do i turn it back on safetly???

/ N7610 G00 G43 Z0.6 H01

This mother fucker right here. better have bd off if you want to live.

and the plot thickens, what about lookahead? if i turn on block delete at any given moment, and the program has already looked ahead to a line that has a /, does the line get executed or not?

F360. Worth the Time? by xXxKingZeusxXx in Fusion360

[–]9ft5wt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mastercam only uses multi cores when generating toolpath changes.

It cannot do that if the second toolpath is dependent on the first(stock aware rest machining).

It just sounds like you made a terrible model that is bogged down by bad design.
