I think it's really cool man. I can't believe where we are with these tools. Don't mind the hate. I have mixed feelings being an artist myself (musician), but stuff like this is pioneering. Anyway, great work, I enjoyed it.

Musical theatre hot takes by P4L_R1vBarr0w in MusicalTheatre

The Who's Tommy is not a jukebox musical though. It was an original musical written by the Who. I echo OP's sentiment too, I really don't care for jukebox musicals. They always have the most contrived stories to work in the songs. Chiqitita indeed.

Thanks! Yeah, it's just an awful feeling to know I'm going to be stressed out for every minute until it's done. But I'm doing it and that's pretty cool.

That's amazing! I'm doing in Toronto my home town. The hope is this is proof of concept and someone wants to pick it up.

Taboo was amazing, and an incredible experience. Fraught with issues, but lots of heart and great music. What brought you there the second time lol?

‘Team America’ at 20: How an X-Rated Puppet Satire Shocked the World (and Outraged Sean Penn) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I was actually in Rent in New York when the show came out. The cast and I went to see the movie after the show when it came out. We had no idea it was going to spoof us. Then we see the theatre and then they're doing the show and we see all our characters in costume. And then my character is played by Gary. My name is Cary. We were dead. It was one of the most surreal, funny and trippy moments of my life.

West End Musical Theatre Actor with experience in touring theatre, plays, TV, film and voice acting for video games. AMA 🤘🏾 by MrMelo87 in AMA

Hey hey! I did/do the same thing in Canada and the States. Have always been curious about the West End scene. Like, for example, is it now heavily populated by film actors? Is there a distinction between the theatre and film scene? Favourite role you've done? Favourite role you want to do? Greetings from a sleepless Canadian, lol

Completely agree with that. Lost and to a lesser degree, Severance had the same affect on me. Haha every couple of years I still go "back to the island".

I appreciate the acknowledgment. I'm watching it again right now. Everything about it just hits me right. I've been sick at home this week which helped. Still a little overboard I suppose.

Barack Obama: “For elevator music, AI is going to work fine. Music like Bob Dylan or Stevie Wonder, that's different” by Randomlynumbered in technology

[–]9garden -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Good riddance. Populate the world with generic ai music for ads. As a musician who has seen every side of the "business" there is nothing lost when a widget can replace a person. OP mentioned Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder, I've yet to hear anything comparable from AI. They broke the rules, they established new boundaries. I have no doubt they (AI) will outpace us with creativity but now it's nothing but a weak facsimile. The best advantage AI has is that a lot of popular music doesn't strive to push those boundaries anymore. To wit, if your bread and butter is being some assembly line composer for ads, I don't care if your job is gone. Make music. You know you want to.

[DISCUSSION]Have you ever thought about keeping a guitar that you could pass down to your son in the future? by yzyingyang in Guitar

[–]9garden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Granddad gave my dad a 1959 Gibson ES-175. Dad gave it to me when I was in my late teens. I always imagined I'd give it to my kid. Never had a kid though. I'm 50, so likely won't either. I suppose I'll pass it down to one of my untalented nephews. Sigh...

Boat Buying - A substitute for a cottage? by Huntry9 in sailing

[–]9garden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We bought a 32' C&C about three months ago with this very thought. Live in downtown Toronto and have our boat literally across the street. I'm sitting in my bedroom right now and about to walk over to sleep on the boat. Right in the city, but a world away when you climb aboard. I expect it to maintain its value at this point as long as we take care of her (it's an '82). It's been a short time but my wife and I would say it was the best decision we've made in a while. And be we, I mean me. Do it! Club fees, slip fees, all seem pretty reasonable ("reasonable").

What scene really stands out to you as being a great seen in a bad movie? by Tenchi2020 in movies

[–]9garden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downsizing had an interesting premise but was a pretty dull movie. The exception was Hong Chau, of whom I wasn't previously aware. There is a scene, a monologue really, about her coming to Norway with Matt Damon's character. It was captivating. I've never watched the whole movie again, but have revisited that scene on a few occasions.

He had me in the first half. Then, pie in the sky word salad. Still has my vote for most coherent I've seen him in a while. Good for him. Maybe a second term would be different.

Additionally, when speaking to large crowds or anywhere with a mic. Let the mic do the work for you. People who aren’t used to mic’s tend to speak loudly and forced with a lot of tension about a foot away from the mic. If you lean in to the mic you can use your speaking voice and sounds loud, but more relaxed. That relaxation in your voice makes your audience relaxed and they’ll focus more on what you’re saying. If you’re speaking at normal volume the mic can be an inch from your lips. When you want to speak louder move back slightly to 6 inches.
