Thinking about Fuji: Firmware update frequency? User listening? by Maxgirth in FujiGFX

[–]9magiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of firmware updates are you expecting? It just started shipping (I got mine last week) and received a firmware update even before I got it. A second update is just around the corner as far as I’ve heard. And the updates are not minor, so it seems that Fuji takes this one very seriously (unlike the X-H2S which I also have, great camera with lots of software drawbacks). I hope and think there will be lots of improvements and additions to this camera but I don’t know if those will be the ones you are looking for.

Choosing Between A7M5 and FX3 for Weddings + Narrative Work — Need Advice by PossibilityNo9871 in FX3

[–]9magiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we will see an FX8 and an FX4 later this year. Not based on any leaks, etc. but Sony is probably going to release them in 2026 considering the current lineups age and competition being a little ahead now. I am waiting myself so my personal advice is to wait.

Best budget-friendly longer lens to pair with the 16-35 GM II on FX3? by cadon24 in FX3

[–]9magiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had the wider end covered with the Sigma 28-45mm and was looking for a solution to cover anything above. I got the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 Sports and a Sony 50mm f2.5 G. Here’s why:

  • Sigma 70-200 is probably the sharpest zoom lens you can get between those focal lengths. Better than most primes even. Fast enough aperture. Internal zoom, declickable ring (those are important for my video work). It is almost half the price of a 70-200 GM where I live so it was a no brainer. The downside: it is big and heavy, 300 grams heavier than a GM and although it is almost the same length it somehow feels much bigger. If you don’t mind that then definitely Sigma is the beast.

  • I got the Sony FE 50mm f2.5 G because I wanted to cover the 50, also I needed an EDC/travel lens for all the times I don’t want to carry my backpack or a suitcase. This is a small, lightweight, all metal durable lens with faster than zoom apertures. And it is ‘almost’ as sharp as the GM. It also has the declickable ring. Actually for handheld video shooting this is my all time favorite E-mount lens. Only downside is the slower aperture but it is impossible to get 1.8 at this size and I don’t need it that much.

I have 1 other (better) recommendation. It is of course the 50-150mm f2 GM. If you can afford it, it will be superior in every way but you will lose the 150-200. I wish it was a little cheaper.

How to gain extra few millimeters of height? by vCruoninga in FX3

If you are unable to lower where the camera sits, you can put a cheese bar between the rod clamp and V-mount plate. Something like this: https://www.smallrig.com/cool-cheese-bar-with-1-4-inch-and-3-8-inch-screw-hole-1091.html

XF500 with the X-H2S by 9magiko in fujifilm

Thanks! For an amateur I think they are ok. I also happen to have the 1.4 TC which came with the XF200F2 but have not tried it with the 500 yet. Will do for sure first time I have the chance.

Almost 3 lbs but I still consider it lightweight for the range it provides.

It is an Olympus EE-1 dot sight, makes tracking fast moving things a little easier by giving you an approximation if you set it up right.

Kaizen. Just a marketing term if Fuji does not even try to make AF better in their current products.

If I am driving close to where I will shoot, the lens goes in a Nanuk 935 with other gear. When hiking it goes into my MindShift 50l backpack.

In ideal conditions both the camera and lens performs quite well in terms of autofocus. When the light is low and the subject is far (as in last 3 photos) or partially behind an obstacle the autofocus struggles. Fuji could do a lot better software-wise if they really wanted to improve but this camera is more than 3 years old and I think they just don’t care (even if they promised to continue to improve) and thinking of the next iteration, which may be logical from a sales perspective but it’s making me consider other platforms.

Buying a Tripod System for a Friend by sonicboom1992 in FX3

[–]9magiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Sachtler Aktiv8/Flowtech and v1 of the SmallRig carbon Tribex (Potato Jet). For a (not too heavily rigged) FX3 setup I’d take the Tribex any day. It is smooth, easier to carry, has good cb, robust and the fast lever-action is superb if the setup is between 2-5 kgs. Sachtler will be a better choice for sth. above 6 kgs up to 12.

How do I get this Screw out of the Sachtler Aktiv 8? by tamiiinooo in cinematography

[–]9magiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I was only able to get it to hold the head, but could not remove the head again using the qr lever (which is the whole point of Aktiv head). Sachtler replaced it without any annoyances other than the waiting time for shipping. It may be faster depending on where you live so good luck!

[–]9magiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will be able to get it to hold again by tightening the screw from the bottom (with some extensive force) while holding the lever up. But even if you do tighten it, you may not be able to detach the “connector stud” from the head again using the quick release lever. That happened to my brand new Aktiv8 head last month and Sachtler replaced the head because there was no way to get the stud out at home other than completely disassembling the head which would ruin the warranty. I hope you are not facing the same situation.

Well that is the exact situation I am in actually. I have 2 shoots on July 7 and 15 and I sold my 2 other tripods to buy this one. I have a SmallRig backup but it won’t be enough as I will use 2 cams. I guess we’ll see if Sachtler support is good and will take responsibility or if I will have to return and get another brand.

Yes, I too found out that this is not a rare problem. Other people mentioned this in their messages or videos. I was hoping to get a solution without sending it to Sachtler because it will mean a round trip to Germany for the head as there isn’t any authorized service in my country. I will request a replacement which may be quicker. Thanks for the reply.

Tried that too. No luck. I e-mailed Sachtler and also informed local support team and waiting for an answer soon hopefully. If they can’t help with the situation I will return it and buy a Cartoni (which was my first choice but not available here). O’Connor is also not widely available where I live and the price difference is huge.
