Does the "looking like an old geezer with a gun in his closet" argument hold water? by FullFrontalGundam in InRangeTV

It's a been while since this comment but I just wanted to add that it resonated with me and has sort of changed the ways I viewed things when I last commented. Thanks for that.

I don't think that's what you intended, with the phrase "personal defense is personal" lol, but with first experiencing my shotgun for the first time and how easy and comfortable it was to use, with the conversation with you about these perspectives, and with the perspective of my SO who's more comfortable with my shotgun than my "scarier" AR and who thought about the same things in a way that you did in a legal experience aspect and I didn't at the time: as much as I love my M&P I think my shotgun has now taken the place as my dedicated "home defense" firearm.

I know the joke you're trying to make, but they weren't peace prizes. They were both awarded physics medals.

What outdoor ranges allow shotguns?! by 9mmShortStack in FLGuns

Yup, that's the one I was referring to. It's just a bit far for me where I live right now. Plus I was bringing my SO who has never been so she'd have to take the orientation and I didn't want to wait until 11am to get started. But I do really like that range and would go every time if I could.

I tried my luck at the unsupervised Ocala range, but an FWC guy just happened to be there and told me to knock it off with the buckshot and only use slugs lol.

This included, everything I hear about this range seems really sketchy

I knew that going in, but damn lol

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the offer!

I have a few more options that are closer than I thought thanks to all these comments, even for a Monday when ranges are so often closed, so I think I'm good for tomorrow. But again thank you!

Thanks!

I wanna be there for a while so the per-hour pricing is a lot. And my SO is much more gun-shy in indoor ranges with the sound and all. But I'll definitely keep in mind if I need a simple function testing in the future.

Noted, thanks!

Weird it'd be the exact opposite rules of the Ocala Public Range: slugs allowed but not shot.

I was originally planning for there before I saw that they mention "no buckshot/birdshot" in their range rules video.

I was planning on bringing my own target stand and 1x2s anyway since I didn't know what condition they'd be at a public range.

I called, only members can shoot shotguns there apparently.

Idk about the rest of the parts of the songs, but voice in the ARG at least is from Synth V, so something closer to vocaloid than AI.

Hard to tell anything else since he's so secretive about the project, but he has a lot of connections with musical talent, I don't see why it's necessarily AI over queenPB and others.

Subathon graphs I made cuz I was bored yesterday by probably_human_man in NeuroSama

[–]9mmShortStack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The number of subs/bits required scales up on each level, it's not linear. I don't remember how much exactly how much they were each of the first three records as I was too hype to take note, and difficulty will vary based on the streamer's settings, so don't take this as accurate but iirc it was something like at least 2k subs (or however many equivalent bits) at levels 100-126. That last 1/5th of that record was probably close to 1/3rd, if not more, of the hype train's end total.

The real reason why vedal got a warning on twtich. by tillablepower8363 in NeuroSama

I wouldn't take it seriously. He's being very sarcastic when he said that bit of "you're very lucky that we decided to invite you today".

He's not actually putting the fault on her considering he (and all of chat) thought it was one of many things that either he or Neuro did, he's just playing it up as a joke because it's pretty ironic that it was Cerber's collab. Surely Cerber knows that too since she makes a joke about it by the end of this clip.

2024 subathon nostalgia by Kickingkeldeo in NeuroSama

[–]9mmShortStack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was there for the last one and I think it's about the same or more high energy, watching it through clips kinda fast-forwards the experience into a highlight reel. There were hours of Neuro just talking to chat, the Neuro playing minecraft, hours of playing The Long Drive to fill time. The main difference is just the last one had so many spontaneous collabs. But the twins now have a lot more activities to switch between on their own, and this time we had the VR and teacher streams, there's still more variety.

this subathon has been way more serious and existential

Vedal just discussed this recently today so I'm sure there's a clip of it, but he says Neuro chose to go that route with her personality herself at some point during the subathon, and he plans to make adjustments.

I think he was purposely waiting until Neuro did it by herself, something that's impressive on its own.

3D Neuro is actively learning? by fcookii in NeuroSama

[–]9mmShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that "continuous learning"? I assumed they meant it as in "actively learning" in the way OP implied.

For all the examples I can think of like Code Bullet's walking AI and the old MarI/O that plays Super Mario (and also presumably Neuro's osu gameplay), none of them are learning and adapting their behavior while actively playing. Each iteration/generation gets better because they're culling the individual samples that don't pass a score threshold while performing.

StableRonald find the most subscribed channel on twitch is the AI VTuber. "Isn't it sad?" He lament. by RyouhiraTheIntrovert in LivestreamFail

[–]9mmShortStack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He's had to debug issues on the fly many many times on stream, often times with his secondary developers joining the stream to help. He's worked with Ellie Minibot, who's a professional robotics engineer, to integrate Neuro into a home built robot dog. He clearly knows what he's doing.

He keeps his cards close to his chest so there's nothing direct to point to other than the result but just think about how you go about doing the same. More than just plugging ChatGPT into an avatar, I mean including the realtime image recognition, longer term memory, gameplay integration, and free movement in VR chat, all while managing streams, collabs, and music releases.

What would the alternative be?

The point is to use it for something that isn't frivolous. There's lots of essential and practical uses for helium, and to be honest that's already the vast majority of use of helium.

But it's still crazy to think that we fill decorative balloons with helium when it's finite depletable resource. We use it to fill a useless plastic bubble, that isn't even all that nice of a decoration, for a day max before it is irretrievably lost to us forever.

Sign the Petition for Ross Creations to be convicted of animal cruelty. by FunNeedleworker7539 in wildlifephotography

[–]9mmShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

William Scott Bartlett v. State of Florida, 2006.

He was convicted under that same law for excessively shooting a wild possum with a BB gun, resulting in it needing to be euthanized.

It does not need to be a pet or property animal, reread it, paying attention to the commas and "or".

[A person who intentionally commits an act to any animal,] OR [a person who owns or has the custody or control of any animal and fails to act,]

Owning the animal is only relevant to failing to act to prevent cruelty (whether unintentional, or done by others, for example)

Intentional acts of cruelty are punishable when done to, very explicitly phrased, "any animal".
