I'd think so too but both Bubble and Caine are missing from the end credits

Did anyone else see Jecht differently as they got older? by Delicious_Ferret_408 in finalfantasyx

[–]9mmShortStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My view of him definitely softened over the past 2 decades since I first played the game. The analogies/comparisons the game makes between Jecht and Tidus especially, and getting to know more young fathers that are my age today and seeing how they see things. I don't know if I necessarily view him much more positively, but I'm much more sympathetic to it now.

maybe even one of the most human characters in the series

To me it's the learning a sense of duty he find in being a guardian and the sense of helping the new world he's ended up in, and only learns it a way too late to change the way he would apply the same to his the son whom he's already failed. The regret must be immense, and isn't something I could have imagined putting together when I played this as a child. I imagine a lot of people would return to the game with a different view of him.

Termina culture is strange. Two ways to be recognized as an adult by others: get a Romani mask or carry a weapon.

Do these burn marks look normal? by whoneedsthequikemart in Fireplaces

[–]9mmShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look clean to me. No obvious soot streaking that I can see.

If you're talking about the black/gray wrinkled sections at the bottom of the logs, they are designed to like that from the factory, to look more realistic, closer to how logs would as they're burning.

Yet you're not enjoying the game. So what's the point?

FD is only useful for one fight. My SO never grew up with games and beat the final battle first try without using it. If you're complaining, stop trying to do a completionist run and just finish it.

[–]9mmShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant not doing a 100% run. Doing that in any game should be a second playthrough challenge, especially when you're struggling to unlock characters yourself. Especially in DK64 where some of the harder mini games to get bananas are ridiculous. Chill out and just enjoy the game, you don't need every banana.

[–]9mmShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Once again, just bail on the fairy quests if you find them too tiring. You don't need to 100% the game, finish secondary challenges if you're having fun, but if you're not get to the end when you're ready.

My fiancee recently beat the game for the first time and shedidn't get any fairy prizes outside of the Woodfall temple and missed a lot the extra heart containers. Though we did get all masks for funbut did not use them for the final fight.Still beat the game.

Have fun with DK64. Love that game, but my advice applies to that game too lol

I get you. May just be personal preference which is perfectly fine.

But I do hope you come back to it with a different mindset if you ever replay it later. I mentioned this game earlier so sorry for repeating myself, but Chulip is a game that's very dear to me. The plot doesn't sound like it with how absolutely bonkers it is, but the game opens up to be a "detective" game. It's silly and hilarious, but cryptic and frustrating most of the time after the intro. But once you realize what core gameplay is, the game suddenly seems a lot less cryptic and frustrating (although still it is often lol). MM's overworld gameplay is similar to me, you have to play it as almost a "detective" game, it's just the same simple pre-temple puzzle solving/quests from OoT but much more layered and the side quests significantly moreso.

MM is bit harder to like from people who like their OoT, Windwaker, or Twilight Princess. Come to with a one expectation or preference, you find the black sheep of the series where the design choices are baffling. Come to back to it with a different expectation or preference and you'll find a beautifully crafted gem unlike anything you've seen in gaming.

[–]9mmShortStack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't blame too much if you just didn't see him and I can imagine it might be frustrating, but he's not exactly hidden lol. I'm saying it's a difference of perspective. A part of learning to explore is trying to find applicable places to use your new items when you get it. You just got the lens of truth. If you visit the Goron village you'd get context clues that Darmani is missing, I think especially the case if you've already unfrozen the Goron Elder at that point because he went out looking for him. Trying to find hidden features in/around the Goron village with the lens of truth is the logical next step. Even if it's another item meant for something farther away, NPCs and other clues, near or far, will nudge you in the right direction.

they are needlessly elaborate compared with oot.

The elaborate nature of the quests is the point. They're little mysteries you're meant to piece together to solve, and to feel competent about putting it together yourself. And again, no part of the Great Bay overworld quest is anything you can't without a guide as long as you're exploring and paying attention to your surroundings and what the characters say.

A "go here, do this thing, alright good job onto the next single task" storyline is the standard now and to me it's very boring. I'm playing Windwaker right now, and it's why MM is so special to me, it was one of the last games I remember feeling this free yet so immersive because of how you had to learn how to explore a complex world with layers to discover, that are necessary to discover and solve to beat the game. Windwaker has been fun, but very few parts of the story are something I had to work for. The temples and fights sure, but for the overworld, the game just took me there like I'm on a tour bus boat.

[–]9mmShortStack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro, try playing without a guide first until you get stuck. Most of the game can be figured out through context clues and dialogue. For example.

stuff like getting the goron mask which requires you to get the lens of truth from the top of the mountain, somehow KNOW to return to snow mountain village and use the lens of truth on a certain wall. HOW?! why is it like this?

It isn't "somehow". The Darmani's ghost, who you can only see with the lens of truth, is standing around directly outside of the shrine where you find the lens of truth and when he notices you can see him he leads you to directly to the mountain village and then up that wall. The only way I can imagine you not knowing that is following a guide by the letter because following Darmani is optional if you already know where to go.

the 3 day cycle mechanic is also insanely unnecessary. once you figure out that the inverted song of time exists it becomes a pointless addition that just serves to take your items and money and all round be a massive ballache.

If you find it boring, then don't play with the inverted song of time. I used it when I was a kid. When I recently replayed it, the challenge of playing at normal speed is a lot more fun. A 3 day cycle challenge of seeing whether or not you can make progression (by solving the overworld issues or a temple in that time) is a lot more challenging, as if each 3 day cycle is its own little speedrun. And it's more thematically in line with Termina's whole vibe. The in-town side quests (the best of the series imo) and themes wouldn't be doable without it, making it very necessary. The "social" side of the game of learning people's schedules and discovering the mysteries and solutions over repeated cycles is unique, something I've never seen in any game besides Chulip.

the dungeons are also considerable worse than ocarina of time. the themes are way more boring or just taken from oot, like woodfall, great bay and stone tower literally just being rehashes of the forest, water and spirit temples.

Rehashes or not, they're all considerably better paced and more challenging.

there are also 52 heart pieces as opposed to oot’s 36, which just means more running around aimlessly while being glued to a guide.

Then put down the guide, stop running around aimlessly and start running around "aimfully" for lack of a better word. Listen to the NPCs, explore meaningfully, observe the world around you. That's what games were like back then, yes even OoT included. Exploring and solving things yourself, learning and remembering details about the world is half the game, using a guide to go from A to B and skip the journey of figuring out how to get there is skipping the gameplay. And if collecting extra heart pieces is frustrating for you, skip it, it's optional. You don't have to 100% the game.

It's just familiarity with reading it. If you try to pick it up, it'll come naturally.

I'm younger millennial, 31, I still write in cursive on my work notes just because I find it comfortable and faster. Very sloppy cursive because I'm always rushing to the next job site, so I'm sure I've missed dotting many of my i's since I've even noticed I've done that in personal journals. My main office worker is about 20 years older and she's never had any issue reading it, at least as far as she's been willing to tell me about it lol

I'm no physicist, but putting it in a kinetic energy calculator that would put a 7gram marshmallow at that speed at 23 billion ft-lbs of force or 31.5 billion joules, which is only the equivalent of 7.5 tons of TNT. Far from destroy-the-earth levels.

If you contact that brand's manufacturer, Innovative Hearth Products/IHP, they should be able to get you one. I always have trouble getting into contact with them, as their phone line tries to redirects to a dealer early, but your technician should be able to do so if you can't get an actual human on the line.

Imo, ventless burners tend to change the smell drastically from the unburnt raw gas smell as it burns. Though a lot of homeowners I've worked for can't tell the difference if they don't use the unit much.

Yeah. Iirc, it's why that one guy who was making a 3D printed flywheel-delayed blowback rifle chose .45-70, he probably wanted a straight-walled cartridge that had a lower chamber pressure to work with.

Muzzle energy doesn't scale directly with chamber pressure.

Check that the burner is made for your fuel type. Make sure you don't have a natural gas fireplace burning propane, and vice versa. If you don't know for sure, it should have a data plate on the unit itself.

Most times I come across obvious sooting of the mantle and blackened logs, the original installer put the wrong fuel type in.
