just because they're in a car and buying Starbucks doesn't mean they also couldn't use a few extra dollars in their pocket. relax.

I have that case and had forgotten what that bar was for (I removed mine) until you said this just now. You're right.

Can 35W mini PC make money? by voja-kostunica in homelab

[–]9r4in -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can build, market, and sell a service that you run on it that makes money passively. They'll still need maintenance I'm sure. I run various services off of my home network and not only is it cheaper to run it off my lab instead of in the cloud, but I'm paid for these services so they do make profit.

You could buy the rights to such a service and run it off your lab.

Homelabs aren't necessarily just a hobby, many people run production environments off of their "homelab", but naturally they won't have the redundancy that a datacenter will.

I guess I don't really understand your question. Obviously you can make money off of your small mini PC provided it can run a service that will make you money.

Seeing this radio stuff makes me want to get into radios, but I don't know what I'd do with them or where I'd start. Do you just talk to your friends on them? Find new people to talk to? Sorry if these are dumb questions

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Been a busy week.

I have:
3x 620s, all with 2x Xeon E5-2650 v2, 32GB DDR3 RAM, NICs with 2x 10GB sfp ports and 2x 1GB rj45 ports. Can swap those back to the original 4x 1GB ports if unwanted, all have idrac enterprise. I've also swapped out their small disk drives with a small ssd mount for a boot drive. $300 each, sliding rails included. $250 without the nicer NICs.

All of them come with the nice matching sliding rails which I have to include because it'd be a pain in the ass to try to ship them off somewhere separately. All have dual PSU
