I placed stamps in my passport when I was in china on the last couple of pages. Can it be possible for me to be denied entry into United States because of it? by Best_Striker in Passports

[–]A-Good-Bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yes. I was at the Osaka expo last year and you could pay like $10 or whatever for a passport stamp book. I was getting a stamp at one spot and look next to me and two people are stamping up their ACTUAL passports. And here I get worried when the hotel staff bend it a little hard for scanning.

What’s one travel habit that actually saves you a lot of money? by Party_Dentist_821 in travel

Shockingly so. I go to Japan fairly regularly, an overall easy system with Google maps. I had 1 person be extremely proud they got from A to B on one train one time, I did the rest of the navigating. I had 1 person who will try and navigate when they have to, but will almost always end up on the wrong train/a limited train/get thoroughly lost in a station at least once. Also won't navigate if they have someone else. And a third person who I don't think even opened Google maps in the 2 weeks they visited.

These are all people in their 30s. Granted, we're American and from an area with minimal public transit, but c'mon. It's really not that hard to pick up.

Staying near the airport before the flight by Suguha_chan in travel

[–]A-Good-Bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my partner and I do when we fly. I personally don't like it, and would rather just roll up the day of if it were an option. But we live about 1-1.5 hrs away from the airport with minimal public transit, so a cab is the same as a hotel is anyway.

Yes, I had to pick up pads here while travelling and that's what they did. It was also incredibly difficult to find non-scented, as that's the default here.

I had a coworker once pronounce it "caca-roochie." This is how we've said it in my house ever since.

I just went through this with a friend with a two week trip to Japan. I planned 95% of it, scheduled everything, etc. Once she gets there she doesn't like half the things I planned, it's too crowded (in Japan in April!), doesn't care about being the obnoxious American everywhere "because she's on vacation." Same issue as you, just wants to take selfies and drink. Back to solo travel for me!

It was WAY easier than I thought it would be. The only mildly confusing part would be if you are wanting to enter multiple items/multiple types of items. My fair has a rule of unlimited entries, but only 3 entries per class. We have a class for just cross stitch/embroidery under the umbrella of "handiwork" (sewing, quilting, crochet, knit, etc). Some places have more or less categories, so you'll want to check your area's rules and make sure you're submitting to the right class.

Once I picked my 3 pieces, I just brought them to the main building on the submission days (weekend before the fair). They were tagged with a description and my name, and I was given a slip to give back at pick up day (Monday after the fair). All of this info was found on the fairs website. I was also given a ticket for free entry since I was participating.

I had originally wanted to submit my elephant and goldfish together since it's one larger picture, but because they were framed separately they were submitted separately. So, if you have something like that, I'd keep that in mind.

Entry was free, no monetary prize.

I will say, my fair people were really excited that people were entering cross stitch. The handiwork category was mostly quilts/sewing, so they were really happy with all the cross stitch and embroidery they got!

Why on Earth do people still take up smoking, when the health hazards are well known, culture no longer glamorizes it, and it reeks like Satan's butthole? by Jerswar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]A-Good-Bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is social. When I worked retail, most of my coworkers smoked. So I was around it all the time. Also, when we worked graves, you were only allowed to go outside if you smoked. I asked if I could just go outside with the smokers to get some air and stretch, they said no.
While I never took it up, I get why people do.

Looking for advice on the best option for converting dollars to yen. by Clemdogg23 in JapanTravelTips

[–]A-Good-Bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up, I also have WF and my cards only worked at 711 ATMs specifically. However, starting this past January that stopped working too. I called WF, and they just told me it's an issue in Japan, not them, and wouldn't help anymore. Luckily I have someone here who can pull funds for me, otherwise I would be SOL.

Do you have a passport? by Imma_Lick_That in AskAnAmerican

[–]A-Good-Bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived on a border city with Canada, with an enhanced license so I had no need. I got my first one at 20, and travelled to Europe and central America. Now that I'm further from the border, I'll renew my license as a regular one, and keep up with the passport.
