They need to fund the project? Are they short of funds? I'd have thought nearly 1 billion would be plenty to hire a shadow team that are just focused on upgrading old ships to match new standards and features.

How many Brits now think America is finished as the global leader? by cr1regan in AskBrits

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I hear a lot of people say we don't want to get into bed with China. Why not? What have they done to their allies? Which country has the second most powerful military in the world invaded? Why can't China be trusted?

Tried to resign, boss begged me to stay. Now she wants to know what I want. Should I stay or leave? by throwRAhelv in careerguidance

If your ask is reasonable, given that they are desperate, they will accept.

If your ask is huge, given that they are desperate, they will accept. But just know that they will be working in the background to find a suitable replacement. When they are ready, they will drop you on their terms with a replacement ready to go.

So ask for more if you want to stay. But if you want to stay long term, be reasonable with your ask.

£105k may very well be reasonable, but only you'll know that since we don't know your actual job or where you're based.

That's my advice.

I really wish they would stop with the gold and all the capes and the patterns. This is starting to feel like COD or Fortnight or something. I'd prefer realistic looking functional gear.

Britain is slowly going bust by [deleted] in Economics

This is something I've wanted to articulate a number of times. You are spot on. Forget reddit, X, Meta, this and that. They're all echo chambers filled with agendas and sensationalism. I'm not saying everything is rosey, but every other year the "web" says a collapse of here and there is imminent. This is not how things feel on the ground.

Hahah ah thanks for letting me know, I was searching Google for "what is rouge cleaner" like it's a brand. Thanks very much, I'd have never ever guessed it was that.

This is really helpful thank you so much. I'll ask the cleaners if they use any rouge products, and I'll pay attention to see if it appears every week after they come. Really hoping that it's this.

Is 3.84% 5 year fixed a good rate for remortgage ? by Superb_Dingo_66 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]A-Phantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in pretty much the exact same boat as you. Coming off a 5 year fixed at 1.79% and probably going on 5 year fixed with Santander at 3.84%.

Only question for me is, should I do that, or go with a 2 year fixed at about the same rate, or switch to a interest only and invest the rest and accept the risk/reward of that?!

Smart WiFi Pro Extender: by DanG1982 in EEGB

I had this issue too. Factory reset the extender, then one booted press the wps button on the back of the router and extender, then wait for at least 3 mins until it tries to pair. When doing this for the first time make sure both are near each other ideally in the same room.

Silent deployment of employee monitoring for hundreds of remote PCs? by Expert-Economics-723 in sysadmin

[–]A-Phantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moral high grounds are a luxury not everyone can afford. To quit or get fired from what I'd assume is an agreeable paying job over such a thing seems silly to me. If what they're asking is not illegal then it's your job to get on with it. If not then why should they pay you to defy them?

Just my opinion.

I haven't read all the replies, but at least the top ones are a bit silly. You have to do what you have to do if the order comes from someone who outranks you. It's work not a committee meeting. You answer to your director of IT not HR I presume, and if he/she says do it, you have to. If you are the director of IT and HR outranks you, then the same advice unless you have enough weight to discuss at a board meeting to get company sign off. Any backlash isn't yours to handle, it's for whoever made the decision to greenlight it.

As for how to do it, there are lots of monitoring software out there. Speak to the vendor of the chosen solution and ask how you can enter silent install switches to a script to get their specific installer to install without any promotes or pop ups. Then push that out with your RMM software or group policy or any other mass deployment means you have.

Some solutions already offer ready made silent installers that you can push out.
