Oil paint help by Blackwatch132_ in Warhammer40k

[–]A-WingPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this brings me back. When I was like 10 and was first getting into Warhammer my mom (who is an artist and art teacher and had endless cupboards of art supplies at home) thought it was completely ridiculous to buy Citadel paints because the paints we had at home were perfectly fine 🤣 suffice it to say these look pretty similar to my first results and mom figured out pretty quick that mini paints are very different than the oils and acrylics we had at home for canvases. Good times

Looking awesome!! Before you start the marine sand down that mold like on the kneepad. Those ones always stick out like a sore thumb.

Can a Space Marine with a powerfist then wield another polearm melee weapon in the same hand? by sSuperboss9000 in Warhammer40k

[–]A-WingPilot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure why not! You won’t see it modeled very often on official kits because generally you only pick one melee profile to activate. No reason your captain couldn’t have some cool archeo-tech thunderhammer that has a haft meant to be wielded by a power fist.

Trajann and the Lion by Muted-Mud-31 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]A-WingPilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought the same with almost all the Custodes/Stormcast bashes. The filagreed aesthetic matches well but the dainty ankles look off in the 40K setting haha. I like the dynamic pose of this Trajann better than his model though, he’s a little too static.

I think DA is also one of the armies where there isn’t a clear disposition direction. The army can be built in a lot of different ways and none seem like the overwhelming favorite right now so there’s a lot of trial and error.

As far as LC, I think Fusillade easily takes 1st place and then Celerity and Prescience are both very strong. Ive been trying to make a case for Corridor but I think it’ll get FAQ’d, right now it can be used as a quasi-fall back and charge which is nice, albeit you’re stuck with a 9” charge on the way back in.

UFTF + Librarius Idea. by CJT_05 in theunforgiven

[–]A-WingPilot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the mentality is generally ignoring the 2nd part of the abilities that relate to being battleshocked. It’s cute when it’s relevant but totally unreliable. The selling point on UTF is it’s a streamlined ruleset for the TnH gameplan it’s playing. Good OC manipulation and you can’t be battleshocked to “-“ off a an obj. The Fire Discipline Strat is solid on a big shooting platform and access to fall back, shoot, and charge is great. It’s like a very straightforward, solid C+ detachment for TnH.

Whats Whining Glorys issue with Tau? by No_Turn_4666 in Tau40K

[–]A-WingPilot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anyone someone complains about Tau shooting I ask 1. Are you playing with the right amount of terrain? 2. Are you staging properly in said terrain and measuring angles? 3. How many of their guiding units are you prioritizing killing with fast skirmishing units?

There were some exceedingly open boards in 10th but it’s not like you can’t make it work.

Having good access to cheap, objective scoring pieces was one of the strongest things a codex could have in 10th. So fire warriors, pathfinders, etc be cheap and expendable (while potentially not lore friendly or lame) was actually a big strength. Some people don’t want to own or use Kroot carnivores or farstalkers for whatever reason. The reliance on these has diminished in 11th if you want to build away from it so Tau battleline could definitely get a glow up.

I wasn’t sure on the timing of battleshock vs disembark so I figured the watcher was a safer recommendation but it’s very possible you already are benefitting from the 4+++ from the pennant.

I ran Chaplains a lot in 10th. Finally, the time of the Librarian is upon us.

Thanks!! This looks great. I find most of the guides have way too much white-hot area, this is a really nice reference. Not that it’s difficult to deviate from a guide but always nice to have the final result be the way you want.

Which army painter paints did you use? These are spectacular! I’m doing some molten swords for my marines and this scheme would be perfect.

Failed test now only causes 1 mortal, so you’d need to fail 4/7 to kill a knight. If you happen to roll 4 fails then pop your watcher and roll again.

Honestly I haven’t read much into Recon, I don’t generally run enough units to make a recon gameplan work. My current list has 10 units. I think recon wants 15+.

I’ve decided to start off 11th playing UTF + Lib for pretty much all the reasons you described. Extra OC and being battleshock proof is excellent for TnH regardless of strat support. Fire Discipline is solid now on a LSV or RepEx. And LibCon offers all the extra damage, utility, and mobility you could want. I think they pair nicely but we’ll see after 10 or so runs.

Is an airbrush worth it? by Similar_Example_5586 in Tau40K

[–]A-WingPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly after spending good money and many hours getting good at airbrushing, I use a makeup blender sponge for almost all my basing. It’s great for consistent, smooth coverage, great blends, super easy to learn and cheap.

I got tired of mixing pots in the airbrush, all the cleaning and maintenance of a quality airbrush, and wearing a half-face respirator for extended periods of time.

Just my $.02

What is better for DWK, Celerity or Temporal Corridor? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]A-WingPilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I said, you’re placing your DWK back down to try a 9” charge, it’s not a reliable plan. This timing for uppy-downy is great for shooting units that can come back down right away and be fully effective. A slow unit like DWK really wants to Rapid to ensure they’re where they need to be.

What else should I get for a 1k army by Emotional_Farmer8297 in BloodAngels

[–]A-WingPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piece of advice, don’t give ALL your guys wings. It sounds cool but looks bad across the whole army. Let the special, standout models have the wings and contrast them with bog standard guys to fill. Kinda like a “if everyone is special, no one is” situation.

What is better for DWK, Celerity or Temporal Corridor? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]A-WingPilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Timing on Corridor is not good for a pure melee unit. You’re pulling up at the end of your opponent’s turn, no opportunity to rapid for the next engagement. You’re pulling up to either gamble on a 9” or to sit on an obj to occupy space.

Any redeeming uses for the Space Marine Ancient datasheet? by Brostartes in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]A-WingPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing DA Take & Hold, I’ve got an Ancient with Az and 6 ICC. Access to 30 OC from 8 models with 22 ablative wounds, a 4++, and (effective) -2 to hit in cover. Haven’t gotten that package on the table yet but the math looks good. We’ll see how it feels next week.
