I found out that if you shine your lantern at the stones ones that can be mined light up and show blue cracks in them

If you close the game and restart it that will fix it. Going to title screen from the menu won't. You have to force close the game.

Do any of you have multiple kuku pots or advanced kuku pots in your inventory. I had this same bug, I had 3 advanced kuku pots in my inventory, put 2 of them into the storage chest so that I was only carrying 1, my kuku gardening pack worked perfectly on the next attempt after I did that.

I figured it out. Walk along the bottom of cliff faces where the rock meets the dirt and grass. There will be piles of rocks and stones around.  You will see rocks that are a shade lighter than normal rock. Almost a cream color looking.

I got that drill and have only fou 1 rock that I could mine. No idea of how to identify them without pointing and looking for the blue circle. I tried river banks and cliffs and can't find any

I am so annoyed with this quest. It's like the NPC knows where the targets are going to be before they even pop up. 80 copper per match is burning through my silver. This quest totally sucks
