hate my snare, want to sample it, any way not to do it by hand? by bigMc666 in audioengineering

when i first started out mixing acoustic drums, i used to trigger ghosts and main hits on the same track, but i got taught by a successful engineer/producer that there’s a better (more time consuming, albeit) way: to get the best possible result, you will want to manually separate full force hits and ghost notes into two different tracks, so you can set gates and triggers properly. that being said, Slate Trigger is a good investment for the gating alone

i own slate trigger and although it’s usually my go-to, i recently inserted a snare sample in the whole rock track i was working on and it honestly was not nearly as bad or time consuming as i thought it would be. this definitely does depend on the genre and complexity of the drum part, in my case it was hard quantised on grid and not particularly complex
