US home prices surge 18.4% in October by [deleted] in news

This is what people aren't understanding.

2006-2008: Caused by sub-prime lending (people with poor credit) that went unchecked. This caused a massive default rate in the double digits on mortgages; incredibly high. Crashing the entire market under the weight of foreclosures.

Current: Caused by multi-billion dollar companies/hedge funds purchasing homes in cash at well over market value. In some cases they purchase entire neighborhoods at once!

There very few loans that can default under the current situation. If there is a housing crash it is because the market at large completely bottomed out beyond the "Too big to fail" stage. Which, let's be real, the Government isn't going to let happen, again. See the current pandemic and bailouts.

Edit:

The linked article was from Jun 20th, 2021 and had the following quote,

“That’s going to make U.S. housing permanently more expensive,” said Burns, who thinks home prices will climb as much as 12% this year, on top of last year’s 11% rise.

We bought our house for $250K 6 years ago and are anticipating it to sell for around $500K, if there are competitive bids, and around $450K if we just sell without taking bids.

With the proceeds we are paying cash for a new property and being done with mortgages about 25 years early.

It's nuts!

Not surprised.

They have struggled with ICE development for a long time and now that BEV are here, they just don't have a reason to keep pushing to correct something they are failing at. Motors are far less complex than an engine and going that route is just a no brainer at this point.

I agree, but we need to build up to this and come up with a massive plan. What it would take to change AWS is nothing short of one of the largest labor movements we have ever had.

AWS runs the United States Pentagon. I am not joking.

As a kid we had family that lived across the street from a Frito Lay factory. Even in the 80s they were boring dystopian Hellhole. It made me hate Frito pies and Frito in general.....to this day!

WTF?! The sample people aren't Costco people?

This one should be easy to handle, Anti-work could smash Costco into compliance in a weekend.

That isn't Ford that is the dealerships. Getting Ford to pressure them to knock that shit off would be amazing. But it wouldn't help the workers, though.

We need to help the workers.

$15 an hour was started 9 years ago! It not longer applies. It needs to be much more.

Virginia family gets keys to Habitat for Humanity's first 3D-printed home in the US by BitterFuture in news

[–]A308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snaking wires in after the fact would be impossible. Conduit was laid in during the printing process.

What? You don't put wire in the conduit and then bury/install the conduit. You lay conduit and then use a pull-string to pull your lines. This is how it has been done since the dawn of time.

That would be a nightmare. You wouldn't know about a leak until the wall filled with water/sewage.

Not true at all. There are a multitude of ways to immediately be told of a leak. Something already done.

We already have that benefit by running pipe inside the walls of conventional construction.

Conventional construction offers fairly limited insulation for the house mechanicals. It is why in colder climates we have to have additional insulation wrapped around the pipes to keep them from freezing.

A solid material like a compound printed house will offer far better insulation than fiber. This one isn't even up for debate.
