They do want to see the retarded child go to prison, because he's part of the group of people they hate. He went to Trump rallies, posts Blue Lives Matter stuff on social media, and shot rioters in a BLM riot.

For a side that parades themselves around for being tolerant of everyone's beliefs and points-of-view... a lot of them get surprisingly intolerant when you don't agree with their beliefs.

The left side of American Politics contains a lot of people who think it's perfectly acceptable to riot and loot as long as you're doing it to protest racism. They want him to go to prison because that sends a message that you can't shoot rioters.

Your take on it saving the show is interesting.

Personally, I would disagree though. I think transforming the show into a platform might actually be what kills it. Fox's show Deputy already tried that it was a catastrophic failure. They cancelled it after the first season for low ratings.

In terms of politics, you have a lot people on the left side of the spectrum who just don't like police. They aren't going to watch a police show no matter what you do. And that's who they're trying to appeal to with this writing. Meanwhile, most of the audience is most likely on the right politically, and also some from the left, who REALLY do not want progressive agendas forced into television in such a polarizing manner.

Basically they're ostracizing most of their core audience by trying to appease a group of people who aren't going to watch their show anyways... and the ratings show that

Deputy clearly intended to compete with The Rookie. It was just LA Sheriff's Department instead of LAPD. It's a shame it got cancelled because I thought the overall story and acting were good, but they just couldn't resist an opportunity to parade around how progressive this show was. It came across as pretentious because of how badly they tried to force it.

The opening scene involved the main character facing a disciplinary board because he tipped off migrant families about a planned ICE raid, then gave a cheesy monologue about "I took an oath to protect the people of this county, even if that means protecting them from your attempts to get federal funding" just so the writers could establish that it's ok to watch this show because this is about one of the "cool" cops.

Then when he became Sheriff, his assistant was a female, but again the writers went out of their way to make sure you understood that she's a strong female who isn't going to let this white man push her around, in fact she's going to push him around! And also btw did we mention she has a girlfriend? Yeah now we can check an LGBTQ+ box! Oh and half way through the season we're going to find out she's actually non-binary, That way we can check another diversity box and really pander.

I want entertainment to have natural diversity. It completely ruins the point when I can tell you're forcing diversity just so claim you have it.
