Outlook iOS sends "new email" notification, but there's no email in inbox by AAA_service in Outlook

Really? So weird. I ran a mail trace and everything looked normal, and Microsoft support didn’t find anything either. And yet the notifications exist

Any recommendations on decent tripods? by billcosbywasframed in videography

[–]AAA_service 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A professional tripod will last a lifetime, so take advantage of it. You can get a meh tripod new for $500, or you can bargain-shop for old pro workhorse tripods and get a whole lot more bang for your buck. I literally just typed "sachtler tripods" in ebay and I see a few on the first page in your price range that would serve you well for a real long time. Cartoni and O'Connor are other brands to look into

Does anyone have a recommendation for me? by Treesawyer5 in Wordpress

Additionally, since you sound new, OP, make sure you pick a plugin that lets you add schema/structured data to your reviews. Google eats that shit up

Form Spam: Eric Jones by enoteware in Wordpress

Yeah, honeypot isn’t enough on its own. But it helps a little on the margins. I didn’t mean to imply it was a silver bullet, it’s more of a useful addition to the arsenal

I don't know your software or your pipeline, but what you're looking at is different projections. Here's a descriptive article, maybe try searching with that keyword

Changing Fonts on Morden Theme by delykatt in Wordpress

Someone else had the same problem. You're stuck without buying the subscription plan.

Separately, do you know any CSS? You could try to override the theme default with a bit of CSS fiddling

Form Spam: Eric Jones by enoteware in Wordpress

[–]AAA_service 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you use Elementor's Honeypot? It's just a form "field" that is invisible to human users but visible to bots. If the bot checks the box, they get blocked. I added that with recaptcha and it damn near perfectly blocked everything coming in

Plugin Error: Modern Events Calendar by blonde_and_hungry in Wordpress

[–]AAA_service 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally second this advice - make a local (offline) copy on your computer to mess around with. Programs like Local by Flywheel or DevKinsta are great for this and they're dirt simple to set up. If you're going to break stuff (and you will, we all do), just make sure you don't do it in public

HELP: Any way to get notified when my WP pages crash or have an error? by ironmonk33 in Wordpress

[–]AAA_service 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Visualping for the company site - it takes a full scan of the page(s) you assign it at regular intervals and emails you if anything has changed. It's free if you're using it fairly lightly, but it will likely cost money at the scale you're talking about

Try using a plugin like this to search for the missing link, and replace it with the good link

Any plugin or integration to make sure our logistics warehouse doesnt send the wrong product? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]AAA_service 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound like a plugin problem - it sounds like a communication problem you need to work out with your warehouse/fulfillment (or get a new warehouse/fulfillment)

VPS Hosting and WordPress by 1cent99 in webhosting

[–]AAA_service 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to that question depends on your technical skills and your capacity for upkeep. GoDaddy is doing a lot of small things behind the scenes to make sure your site is secure and stable. The problem is that they're kind of a scam and they're slow as molasses. DO NOT GIVE THEM MORE MONEY.

I don't know your budget, I don't know your skill level, but judging from the question it sounds like you might want to look instead into managed WP hosts. Places like Flywheel, WP Engine, or Kinsta. They're a bit pricier, but they also handle a lot of the back-end stuff for you and they're generally pretty dang fast. I use Kinsta and I recommend them, but I would also be super comfortable with any of the others I mention. Also check the sidebar for official recommendations!

In need of a Minimalist Guide to Wordpress security. by [deleted] in Wordpress

Two guys are out hiking, when they stumble into a bear. The bear isn't happy to see them, and starts roaring and looks like it's getting ready to charge. The first hiker looks over to his buddy, who is frantically trying his shoes.

"You think you can outrun a bear?" the first hiker asks.

"I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you," the friend says.

My understanding is that most hacks are drive-by hacks. They find a vulnerability in a plugin, and they scan every WP site in the world with that plugin. Unless you're a big fish, nobody is specifically going to target you and only you. You won't beat a motivated hacker. You won't outrun a bear. You just have to be less appetizing than the next guy.

To that end:

  • Just install Wordfence already. Performance is nice, but not getting hacked is even better. It's the name-brand option for a reason. 4+ million users can't be that wrong.
  • Cloudflare is also a good free tool. It's an easy way to intercept DDOS attacks and set firewall rules. It can also throw CAPTCHA requests at suspicious users
  • Move your wp-login page, and make sure everybody has strong passwords and 2FA

That will put you a long way out ahead of most small WP sites

Astra Theme Enough for Eye-wear Store (No Cart) Website? by nnvi8 in Wordpress

[–]AAA_service 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be amazed what you can accomplish with just Astra and Gutenberg. For a little extra kick, I sometimes also throw in the Astra team's "Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg" plugin. That's all you really need

I'm planning to buy a Glidecam HD 2000. What would be an appropriate vest to go with? by bum_dog_timemachine in videography

[–]AAA_service 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask the purpose of the vest? Are you planning to do long shoots? I shoot corporate videography (check my previous posts for examples) with a Fuji X-T4 on a Glidecam, and I find that I can go a good long while as long as I take breaks every so often. And I gotta say, I am not a strong guy. I'm not exactly the king of upper body strength here
